Reporter: "You're sort of off to an under achieving start this year."

Tony: "Well, I don't go by what you guys go by. Obviously there are things I want to do better, and I think there are things that this team wants to do better, and I think we will going forward, but the only way to do that is to go out and take care of business today. It doesn't matter, we could sit here and talk about it, and I could tell you guys all this junk, but if we don't go out and do it on the football field today, and tomorrow, and the next day, we won't be able to do it on Sundays."

Reporter: "But there's no sense of being surprised or disappointed in your own play after 4 games?"

Tony: "Well, if you think it's going to be 16 games of perfect and that we're going to throw 3 touchdown passes every game and everything's going to happen, then you're kidding yourself you know. I don't think that's the case. I heard Jack Nicklaus say once, 'if I bogey the first 2 holes it sucks, but I got my quota out of the way. Now it's time to go and do what I do in the next 16 holes.' Part of that is the football mentality, you lose a game or two okay. Sometimes it happens at different times, but now it's time to improve, go forward and win. And that's what we're going to do."

He's saying all the right things, and he's been saying all the right things.

Sunday against Denver was the first time all year I could not defend him in any way. He didnt play as bad in NY or Carolina as people suggest, but against Denver was just plain bad. No way around it.

So he can say all the right things he wants, but he has to go out there and do it.

I for one think he will.

well it would help if the wrs knew the freaking playbook. It's Garrett's playbook so it can't be that hard to learn.

i really like romo

and despite his poor play im still behind him. i havent lost confidence in him.

i still see this guy being here for a while, winning numerous playoff games with us, even a superbowl

its not tony that worries me its jason garrett.

the sad part is for now their stuck with each other so romo's upside is limited

i can only hope that jason learns from each passing mistake and can finally string together consistent game plans and learn to adjust when said plan doesnt work.

its happened before where offenses and defenses have gotten hot and turned things around. nothing new in the nfl but i just have little faith that jason can make that turn around

hopefully for romo and the sake of this team he can. if not romo and this team should be able to realize their potential next season hopefully if jason is shown the door.

Besides Austin's horrible route (use the freaking sideline man) I dont know how much blame can be put on the WR's for last Sundays game.

Romo was just off.

The problem is HOW they are running their routes. Laufenberg said that our recevers cannot get any seperation and they run their routes poorly.

For example, if the play is a 10 yard comeback, then the WR has to sell the deep route by running full speed and then plant that outside foot and turn hard back to the inside and sheild the defender with his body. What our guys are doing is just running lacklusterly and just rounding off that comeback and allowing the DB a chance to reach around them or go infront of them for the pass defense.

It is called effort.......it takes more effort to run a nice, crisp route an being in the best position to catch the ball. What we have here is WRs going through the motions.

So how does this affect the QB??? If the WRs are lazy in their route running or cannot get any seperation, then it is easier for them to be covered. All of a sudden the windows get tighter to throw to or the QB has to hold the ball longer waiting for the WRs to get open which causes more sacks and pressures.

Don't forget, we also have a horribly injury-prone WR corps pretty much from the top down. You don't spend a lot of time on the trainer's table and not get somewhat skiddish making those plants. I don't doubt they still have the stuff to make big plays, but if you think Miles is going to cut the same way now as he did before all his injury junk sprung up the last few seasons, you're kidding yourself.

I'm pretty terrified of all this Roy injury business too. The guy hasn't been all that great without the injury problems. Who knows how he'll be with them.

I'm fully aware of what poor route running does.

I haven't seen it though. Perhaps I'm not looking closely enough.

But our receivers have been open a decent amount this year. Romo just has to hit 'em.

Agreed.

Some of our guys do look like they are playing scared out there.

Babe Laufenberg talks about how bad our WRs are running routes almost every game. He is in the booth with Brad Sham doing the radio broadcast so he has a pretty good view of the field and is watching it live whereas most fans only see a small portion of the play on TV.

I think Laufenberg knows what he is talking about since he was a former QB in the league and he has no reason to lie about it, so I tend to believe what he says is true. So if he says our WRs are poor route runners, then thats good enough for me.

I love how confident he always he sounds off the football field, I really do. But when you stick that helmet on him and he doesn't start a game off right or something unexpected happens, he doesn't seem to follow his own advice. Maybe he should apply this philosophy to one single game? I'm not claiming to know how Tony Romo feels during the course of a game, but from my point of view, his confidence drops a million floors every time he screws up.

We had to end up with the bipolar QB...Joking.

Plus, I'm like 99% sure Tony Romo is completely done getting better. The way he talks, he shrugs off every bad thing that happens like it either doesn't matter or that it can all be forgotten. That's great... when your bad performances are an aberration, or say, you just dropped a hold on a game-deciding FG in the playoffs. It's not great when you make a habit out of making just drop-dead awful decisions and refusing to acknowledge (outwardly, anyway) that anything about your on-field approach needs changing at all.

I want him to forget performances like 07 Buffalo or 09 Denver... but not completely. You can't learn from the past if you've erased it. I'm going to wear my No. 9 uni to the bar on Sunday with pride, but damn dude... this pattern isn't going to change unless his attitude does. When he comes out every week saying the same things and then goes out every weekend and continues to commit the same mistakes he says he has figured out... what am I supposed to make of that?

Don't worry, Tony. The enablers and apologists have your back, as usual. Tough love? What's that?

I would have to take his word for it as well.

But how many times have we seen Romo miss open receivers so far this season? Williams got hurt because of it, Witten had a fluke pick off his foot, he's overthrown Austin a few times, and Crayton a few in the Bucs and Denver games.

Like I said I'll take Babe's word for it, but I think if Romo would hit them when they're open more than he is, we're not having this conversation thats all.

IMO it was a combination of the 2. Romo was really off and the wr's were having trouble getting seperation and poor route running.
