Predict our 2019 WR Corps

Amari Cooper
Michael Gallup
Cole Beasley
Noah Brown
Lance Lenoir
Cedrick Wilson

Tavon resigns elsewhere, and I’d say there’s like a 90% chance Hurns is cut given his production and the fact that’ll save $5mm against the cap.

Cooper and Gallup are the obvious starters.

Beasley and Austin are the question marks but I think both come back, Beasley won't get the contract offers he thinks he will.

Hurns and TWill have the same chance of being on the roster as I do.

Noah Brown, Cedrick Wilson and a draft pick compete for the final spots.
I dunno man, can you run a mean wheel route? You might have a shot.

Here's my prediction:
Cooper
Gallup
Austin
Hurns
Noah Brown
Lance Lenoir

I also predict Beasley gets a contract offer just big enough that Jerry doesn't match (Cowboys get comp pick?). Then the Cowboys re-sign Tavon to replace him. Rationale: Cooper is fantastic in the slot and with him on the field, Tavon does damage as well vs CB2s.

2019 starting WRs: Cooper, Gallup and Austin.

Thoughts?

Hurns will be definetly cut alone by the way his contract is structured.
Gallup will be there.
Cooper of course. JJ wont cut him. That would be plain stupid.

Everybody else is in question. Especially Austin who was more injured then contributing. Well he isnt signed anyways.

Great points, and I think Beasley's future is tied to a potential new coach. If he thinks the new coach can fix Dak and he won't be out there running around for nothing? I can see a potential return. If it looks like more of the same? I don't think he'll keep wasting his time for nothing.

Beasley is a really good slot WR.

Based on his comments (twitter, interviews, etc.) he likely sees himself as a great NFL WR and deserving of a mega-contract.

Unfortunately for him, a 5-7 slot WR is not going to get anything close to an 18M per year mega-contract like the big outside WRs.

He certainly doesn't want to waste his time and abilities running around out there for nothing. Right now, he's dealing with a quarterback who either:
  • Doesn't see him
  • Overthrows or underthrows him
  • Or waits long enough for the defender he shook to play catch up if he does get him the ball
And worst of all, he has to sit back and "take the high road" and not say anything about the fact that this is what's happening.

If nothing changes, who would want to stick around for more of that?
Sometimes, the high road is both right and wrong road at same time. I want to hear the truth. Bottom line: Dak is a fine young man who I’d love to call my son, but he’s not the answer to our QB question.

Agree, TWill thought he was going to get a monster contract also.

If he thinks he's due for "big money", the rap thing has gone to his head. Like you said, he's a nice slot receiver, not a star. While he's better than his current numbers with this quarterback, he's not a big-ticket item. If he disagrees, he's in for a rude awakening and can try to find it elsewhere.

But unless major things change, I don;t see him wanting to come back here, regardless of whether the money is competitive. This current situation is a liability for every receiver involved in it.

Would like to see Cowboys go after one of these Texas Longhorns monster wide receivers 6'5" Lil' Jordan Humphries (#84) and/or 6'6" Collin Johnson (#9) or blazing fast (4.32) slot receiver 5'11" Devin Duvernay (#7). Either one would add talent to this receiving group, especially if Cole Beasley leaves as expected via free agency after this season.

Looks about right. If both Austin and Hurns go elsewhere, and a cheap vet FA becomes available, they COULD drop one of the bottom 3.

I expect over correction from this front office.

Cooper
Tyrell Williams/John Brown
Beasley
Gallup
3rd/4th round draft pick
Brown/Lenior/Wilson

Also expect a TE signing as well....someone mediocre like Jesse James or Tyler Kroft, as well as bringing Swaim back.

Instead of doing smart things like continuing to add o line depth or add to soft spots in the D like S and DT I think they will go overboard in giving Dak weapons hoping it hides his deficiencies.

With the eventual result being he gets cut and chased out of town for "underperforming" vs the value of his contract.....

Writing is on the wall for Beasley

He's next on the scapegoat list and likely knows it

Beasley is gone, I'd rather have the compensation in the draft than have to pay his salary.

The difference with Beasley is that he's due to be a free agent, so the choice will be his. And if things don;t change considerably, I think it's a no-brainer that he would elect to leave. And who could blame him?

Even if he wants to play for the Cowboys and he ends up signing somewhere for money similar to what the Cowboys offered, he'll probably insist on going through the free agency process because he thinks some team will give him the mega contract.

By the time he figures out that he will not get the Sammy Watkins contract, the Cowboys may have spent the money they had budgeted for him.

After tonights performance we need to draft Lil Jordan Humphrey #84 Texas. Awesome receiver and what a Playmaker...
