We had 28 last year. I'm going to go with 48 this year.
I think the additions are good for an extra 20 spread-around sacks.
2.5 sacks/game is about average. Last year Buffalo had 3.4 which is ~54/yr. We were ranked 28th with 1.8 sacks/game. One more sack a game puts us in the top ten for last year. That's about 45.
I think 45 would be our lowest goal and 60 our top goal. I think we could make 50-60.
I could see somewhere around 2.5/game while Hardy is out and then somewhere between 3 and 3.5 when he's back given good health. So somewhere between 45 and 50 is about where I would go.
It is hard to argue against your logic. In fact I would gladly take 20 more sacks especially if more than half would come in the 4th quarter to close out games.
4th quarter or not, if they're hitting the quarterback more often it'll affect the game in any quarter.
Personally I hope most of them come in the first half, rattle the QB, force turnovers, and get us comfortable leads. Then the other team has to play catch up ball and becomes one dimensional on offense, allowing our pass rushers to pin their ears back and ignore the run (like teams used to do against us when we had a hilariously bad offensive line).
True but late in the game when teams are behind trying to get back into it is a time when defense needs to finish them off and get after the QB. However in recent years guys like Ware were so gassed late in game their effectiveness in these critical situation was poor. I hope having more guys capable of putting pressure on will allow us to finish team as they go into passing mode
42. The answer to the universe.
When you have guys who can end a 2 minute drill before it even gets going that is huge. We're going to have Gregory-Hardy-Crawford-Lawrence going full bore in those situations. Thats going to be scary for teams behind late.
