Jerry will go with B.
Only because he's comfortable with Mike. I wouldn't be surprised if Zimmer also comes back as well. Those coaches don't make waves and just listen and do whatever Jerry wants.
I also see scenario C too. If Mike walks or gets fired we'll be treated to another retread HC.
Jerry doesn't care about wins and loses. He's just happy to bring in his money.

I'm gonna go with my own scenario, scenario E, hire the entire Norte Dame coaching staff which is the best in the country.

At the conclusion of this dismal 2024 Cowboys season, a scenario about the future of Mike McCarthy will unfold regardless of of the outcome in Sunday’s meaningless final game against Washington.

Below are four possible scenarios I see happening although there certainly could be more I don’t see. Which one do you predict will actually happen and also tell us why you believe that will happen?
  • SCENARIO A: Mike McCarthy‘s contract expires and the Cowboys let him ride off into the sunset with no press conference or other public comment from the Jones people or from Big Mac. McCarthy ends up being hired elsewhere.
  • SCENARIO B: A few days after the season ends, Jerry holds a press conference to announce Mike McCarthy has been extended with a new 3 year contract and a raise bringing his pay from 16th highest paid to top 10. (Jerry is famously cheap paying his HCs)
  • SCENARIO C: (An addition to scenario A) Big Mac leaves, is not renewed. A week before the SB, Jerry announces the hiring of another experienced head coach, perhaps even a ”retread”. Could be Mike Zimmer, Pete Carrol, or a younger Brian Flores or someone similar. And…perhaps Jason Witten is brought on staff to be designated HC in waiting to be mentored and prepared much like Jason Garrett was. Smh. (Didn’t include Mike Vrabel because no way JJ hires a guy who clashes with his bosses like he did in Tenn)
  • SCENARIO D: Big Mac leaves, and the week before the SB, Jerry announces the Cowboys are hiring a young guy who has never been a head coach before. Someone like Lions DC Aaron Glenn (who once played for Dallas), ravens OC Todd Monken, or some other young gun. (I didn’t include lions OC Ben Johnson because no way he comes to Dallas. He will have better options)
Personally, I would prefer Scenario D because I believe a younger, more cutting edge rising talent would be way better than some retread. The scenario I believe will happen is Scenario B.

So which scenario do you want, which one will actually happen and why?
I want scenario D. I agree for the same logic that you have, we need someone younger with more creativity and innovation.

But I think its going to be scenario B but I don't think its for 3 years. I think a 1-2 year extension. I don't think Jerry will risk having another bad year and having to be on the hook for his contract for 2 years (which is why I think he came back this year) I also think he isnt going to like his retread options bc their aren't a lot of them available.

The Jones get on the yacht and cruise around until the draft without making a decision.

they have someone on their list.

I want D, but no way JJ doesn’t get credit for building a winner.

So, probably B. JJ is too weak to do what’s needed.
D is what needs the biggest focus as to personnel. Always has with Jerry. He likes home run hitters on offense.

He needs a leader that demands discipline and creative Coordinators on Offense and Defense.

Stephen is now the center for no gamble and conservative standards.

So they settle for the easy options on their coaching staff, and hope that by sticking with big names with a big past, some of that past glory will magically rub off on them.

But in a league that thrives on risk-taking and innovation, going conservative on your coaching will get you exactly to where the Cowboys are: 29 years and counting since the last conference championship game.

Joe Banner is right, the Cowboys need some major changes on their coaching staff.

Or you could just bring in another retread who was a big deal 10 years ago. Because it’s comfortable.

Good bye Head Coach and start the scrambling down the line...

after sleeping on things, pondering this question asked in the OP Topic, I believe strongly that Mike will just walk away from the Cowboys and I think he has shown his hand if you need evidence, he was selling one of his homes a few weeks ago. Need more evidence, the man looks glowingly happy in his pressers lately and that is a look of a man that is glad hes leaving Jerry Jones' thumb. Its his mannerism's. Sunday evening, we will start to see stories that they "mutually" parted ways. Each side kissing each others arse on the way out lol. I also think 99% of our staff will walk too. Jerry vastly overrated his tactic of signing the staff to 1 year deals. Hes arrogant and he assumed he had them over a barrel but what he forgets is, they have pride. I imagine most of these coaches already have gigs lined up right n ow. It will be a mass exodus out of Dallas. What Jerry did was arrogance on steroids. BTW, I think Stephen convinced Jerry to do this.

Humor added: Jerry, don't force your fans to have to wait on the new Justice Department to declare anti-trust before seeing Dallas returning to an America's Team status again.

The last hiring cycle took a while to get going, as Dallas waited over a week from the end of the regular season before hiring McCarthy. Time may be of the essence this cycle, as there could be upwards of seven or eight openings come early January. The Jets, Saints and Bears have already fired their head coaches. The Cowboys, Giants, Jaguars, and Raiders could all be in that boat. There’s even an outside chance the Bengals and 49ers are looking for new leaders for their sidelines.

It’s going to be a crazy upheaval in the NFL coaching ranks and if Dallas throws their hats in the ring, they will be the biggest tent at the circus.

22. Josh McCown, Minnesota Vikings QB Coach
21. Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman
20. Liam Coen, OC, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
19. Ryan Grubb, Seattle Seahawks OC
18. University of Georgia head coach Kirby Smart
17. Ejiro Evero, Carolina Panthers, DC
18. Jesse Minter, Los Angeles Chargers, DC
15. Vance Joseph, Denver Broncos, DC
14. Adam Stenovich, Green Bay Packers OC

I think we will have the same situation that we had when the Joneses hired McCarthy in the first place. Remember Garrett was still coming into his office about a month after the season and still was in consideration. We all know the Joneses are going to milk this for attention. Sadly we won’t have decision until probably late February. I can’t see McCarthy coming back in any scenario. You can’t sell him to the fanbase without changes to the coaching and the way the team attacks free agency. Plus you will have to give him a brand new contract.

Most likely MM will want to entertain other potential offers. And he could ask if Jethro is willing to match those offers, assuming JJ is interested and or MM preference is to bolt , which all indications reeking from Dallas would say our owner is interested.

My hunch is our owner isn’t wanting to make a long term contract. Probably more of an extension like 2 or 3 years at the most. And if MM is offered a longer term deal like 5 years from another team that could be the deciding factor.

Time is more pertinent dilemma. Some of the top prospects ( OC & DC) from teams in the playoffs and won’t be approached or at least announced until their team is eliminated.

MM while potentially exploring other offers, he might not be their first choice and if teams are waiting to pursue these other up and coming prospects from playoff teams this could drag on for a few weeks.

I’d place closer to or after the Super Bowl as a better time line instead of next week.
