Prediction: Cowboys to go after Safety D. Goldson if he hits free agency...

When the Cowboys cut Sensabaugh, they had their sights set on Dashon Goldson, Safety of the 49ers. If the 49ers are dumb enough to let this stud walk (so far it looks like they will) then Jerry will be waiting with a checkbook in hand to sign this guy.

I think this will be our only major free agency pick-up and it will require the Cowboys working out a long term deal with either Romo or Spencer in order to free up enough cap space to make it happen.

What do you guys think?

Maybe if we didn't tag spencer...but with a safety class this deep, and being so tight to the cap, no chance.

I think we're going to find a rangy S in the draft to work in with Johnson and Church and, maybe, Sterling Moore.

I think we're going to pick up a mid-level vet on the cheap and also draft a guy in the first 3-4 rounds to compete.

Fredd = broken record

if we have resources, please spend them on OLine..pretty please? Let the draft get an extra body at safety to go with church and johnson

I'm almost scared to say it, but I think we'll go with a drafted guy. If that fails, we'll probably bargain shop for insurance in case Matt Johnson and/or Barry Church aren't ready.

Seems like we're always playing musical chairs with the safety position, it's crazy.

We need to find a Goldson type of player in the draft. That guy is the antithesis of Sensabaugh. Instead of waiting for the play to come to him like Sensy, this guy flies to the ball like a torpedo.

I'd much rather go after Kenny Phillips- he will be cheaper and a better fit in Monte's scheme.

Yup, I have watched him play and I swear he tries to pop the ball out on every tackle he makes. I remember in the super bowl Ray Rice was complaining because of late hits by Goldson. He was coming in just like you said, a torpedo and nailing everyone. I think he is the one who knocked out Pierre Thomas last year in the playoff game too. The dude is the complete opposite of Sensablo and EXACTLY what our team needs at safety. Man, him and Church would be awesome!

We have no money. We will do the same thing we have done for a decade. We will bring in 2-3 scrubs and spend a 5th rounder on a small school project and hope for the best.

Agreed. Or D Line as well.

Stop spending money in the secondary and WR position. It's gotten us absolutely no where.

They are not going to have the cap room to go after premium free agents. I realize they will create a good amount of space with a new deal for Romo and possibly cutting Free but tagging Spencer will eat up alot of that and you still have draft picks to sign and RFA to tender and sign. I just don't see the room to fit in a premium free agent, especially since his cap number will probably balloon in year 2 or 3 and they have tons of salary already on the books for the next two years. I think they will again be bargain hunting for free agents to fill mainly backup roles. Now, if they get a longterm deal with Spencer that is cap friendly for 2-3 years or they trade him, my thinking will probably change. That would free up cap room to go after a few premium free agents.

Unfortunately, this is probably right.

shouldnt the cowboys front office (and i use that term loosely) have known these issues/limitations already along with the needs of the team and planned accordingly?

if there are poor contracts or tons of money on the books, who gave out said contracts?

so, if the team has needs but does not have the required cap room, does that fall on the players? the fans? the front office?

inquiring minds want to know

BTW i am certainly not recommending signing a big name FA at safety

but it would be nice to be able to sign someone on the OL
