I should have been more clear. I know it might improve the team from its current roster if the RB pans out. I meant it doesn't improve the team from last season because your golden ticket (#1) just replaces what you lost.....and in this case, a player you allowed to leave that you could have kept if you thought it critical. If you improve the team on defense, you may have a better overall team without a first round RB.

It would be hard to understand a draft philosophy of BPA and pass on Gurley.
Murray also had a injury college career. We shall see soon and i cant wait.
I dont think your post is irrational but I still would love Gurley.
I think we will have a good results either way.

addendum: press conference is worrying

This is as much a philosophy of the Cowboys post as it is about the draft.

Prediction: all RBs will still be available when Cowboys are up at #27.

Gurley isn't just coming off the injury; he's missed time due to injuries throughout his career. Availability is a legitimate question with him. Gordon and Gurley both have significant deficiencies in pass protection according to all reports, and contrary to those who rank players for the draft, teams still don't see the need to select RBs in round 1, and especially won't see the need when the position is deep.

Prediction: Cowboys will still draft defense at 27 or trade down. They will not draft any RB in round 1. Letting Murray walk is as much about philosophy as money. You don't improve your football team by letting the NFL's rushing champ walk and then using that first round pick to replace him. That does not improve the team at all. That first round pick will be used to improve a position over last year.

Fans won't be happy, but Cowboys are determined to improve defense above all else.

I'm also starting to think CB will NOT be the selection at 27.

27. DE--LB--DT (if Brown is there) or trade down.
Next 3 selections--CB, WR, RB in Any order.

In a trade down, I like Grady Jarrett, DT Clemson--Mario Edwards, DE Florida St.--Stephon Anthony, LB Clemson, and I could see converting #27 into two of these or similar players before looking at CB or RB.

Which do you prefer:

A.
Hardy
McClain
Gurley

B.
Murray
No Hardy
No McClain

I'm curious. You hear "weak draft class" every do many years... BEFORE the draft of course.

Question: was it eventually confirmed years later or did someone great come out of those drafts? Did more than one very good to great player come out of those drafts?

I tend to think this draft does not have a guy who stands head and shoulders above others but overall I think this is a good draft class with some overall good talent that can be found through out much of the draft.

2009 was described that way before the draft and it is playing out that way even now.

All you have to do is just look at the first round and it is horrific.

Only Stafford, Clay Matthews, Maclin, Alex Mack and Raji have been above average.

Busts - Jason Smith, Aaron Curry, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Aaron Maybin, Larry English, Josh Freeman, Peria Jerry, Beanie Wells

Disappointments - Tyson Jackson, Mark Sanchez, Andre Smith, Michael Crabtree, Robert Ayers, Michael Oher, Donald Brown, Kenny Britt

This was also the draft where Dallas had the brilliant decision to draft special team players out of a bad draft.

To be clear though, this draft is not close to being that bad.

Thanks.
Any gems in later rounds or that was it?

What's it going to be then, eh?

Not really. About the only late round pick that panned out was Jason McCourty in the 6th and I am being literal here.

It was disgustingly bad and almost impossible to duplicate.

The fan zone is still full of draft threads, but I appreciate an accurate prediction...lol

The fan zone is NOT FULL of draft threads.

There might be a couple of articles or recaps of draft shows but not many fan created draft topic threads.

I know because I keep moving threads :D
