Predictions for Matt Waletzko?

Waletzko remains a long shot in my estimation.

He played his college fb at North Dakota Univ- not North Dakota State. NDU plays in a home stadium in front of 21,000 fans and is in the Missouri Valley Conference where they face opponents like Weber State, Murray State, and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. Doesn’t mean he can’t play. But he spent all of last year on IR and has not faced much NFL level speed and talent yet.

I hope he works out. He certainly has the size and and a decent skill set. But he is a developmental project. I’m pulling for this guy but he’s going to need some time to get up to NFL speed. Patience will be needed.

Recently Broaddus and Belt were discussing him and basically stated that when he did come back before they placed him on IR that he had missed training camp, and still comes in and looks better than Ball. They did mention looks at Guard. Both said that he had great movement and needed upper body work. Definitely one of the guys to watch this offseason. Belt said that they are really hoping he shows enough that they feel confident in him being the swing tackle and making Tyron Smith a cut candidate, either this year or next.

Naw, Tyron Smith will decide when he hangs up his own cleats...he's a man and a respected Cowboy who has earned the right to determine his chosen path. I'm not worrying about his integrity. Jerry has shown him genuine ethics.

Waletzko spent his rookie season on IR. Waletzko will need a minimum of at least another year to develop. Just as it was unreasonable a year ago to expect Josh Ball to step in at Tackle and be successful after spending his rookie season on IR, it is completely unreasonable to expect success in 2023 from Waletzko. It is more reasonable to expect Josh Ball to be successful at Tackle in 2023 than it is to have high expectations for Waletzo in 2023.

Fortunately for the Cowboys, they have both Tyler Smith and Chuma Edoga on the team, both of whom have played offensive tackle in the NFL, to back-up Tyron Smith and Terence Steele. If the Cowboys get to Ball or Waletzko or one of the rookies, then they are having injury issues which could derail the season.

One of the rookies, or Ball, or Waletzko will emerge in 2024 as the Swing Tackle, as this is likely Tyron Smith's final season. But fans need to be patient. We have no idea which of the 4 players who could potentially play swing tackle will emerge as the winner of the competition. Time will tell.
My prediction is Josh Ball gets the axe.

People hate on Jerry but I appreciate his loyalty. He cut Zeke so that tells me he's at least weighing the risk reward.

For people wondering what I mean by like Morgan Moses here is some tape of him in pass protection

As you can see he has EXTREMELY long arms and he uses them to advantage despite mediocre feet and anchor. If Waletzko can just learn technique he too can be successful. If his feet and power are better than his ceiling is higher.

If there are no pre-season injuries, which isn’t likely, the backups are Farinok, Edoga and Waletzko.

Only question would be when Tyron goes down do they insert Waletzko at LT or move Tyler over from LG and start Edoga.

Fans don’t like Edoga, but the FO does. Brace yourselves.

I'm just glad to see he's worth mentioning as a possible LT candidate at this point in time. It's been said that he's making progress in his physical being and that's encouraging to some degree. We won't know much until TC and the preseason games occur. I'm hoping for him to impress us favorably.

Did you know that a real rabbit is actually vicious if harassed and picked on for a long period of time? That's for real, there. Irony?

I like his learned aggression, and I'll wait and watch there. He is a smart lineman.

I think if Asim Richards shows better anchor than he did at senior bowl, he will end up active on game days. Havent seen enough Walletzko, and what I have seen of Ball wasnt encouraging. Richards I think has the most upside.

Cowboys have said they want him at OG. He will need a year getting stronger and learning the game. Likely means PS this year unless he has been living in the weight room since the draft.

Waletzko is just the type of drafted 'unknown' taken by the Cowboys in building the 'wall.' Paint this fan interested.
