Prescott had a very shaky 4th QTR

Like I told one of your other compadres that like to lecture on the offense woes when it’s clear that that the bulk of our issues are on defense show me where Dak missed the open receiver on that last drive show me what you would have recommended Dak do differently

It was a piss poor play call from jump street and Carolina sniffed it out

I have reached the point where I don’t spend a lot of time conversing with those on here that frequent the threads that like to bash our qb but since we go way back I’ll make an exception

He couldn’t run . The call was a screen which was stupid as Pickens had been dealing all day and then once they got behind the chains it just steamrolled

Why were they in that position to begin with? Because the defense couldn’t stop anything be it run or pass

I agree baker has been playing at a mvp level that’s part of why they are 5-1 or 4-2 can’t remember but he’s been good. I’d say no one has been better

You know sometimes the defense wins and I’m not gonna bring up how many times the previous QB had the same thing happen to him after playing well only to be let down by the D

But I’m guessing you were on the other side of that argument in fact ive witnessed you do it here . you’ll protect his image with every argument took you can find

That’s what fandom is about though pick and choose the battles you want to passionately defend

Jerry again failed to address both side of the ball and it’s gonna be an interesting year. The offense is good enough atm to carry this team if the defense was just poor to average

But it’s pathetic probably the worst defense I’ve seen maybe 2011 was worse but maybe not
All fair poiints, and mostly right. Except one....

The only image that I "protected" was that a certain someone was the classic perennial choker. He certainly was not. No matter what 4th qtr wins, or game winning final drives... I show...or what objective opinion I cite...it doesn't matter.

But that's more n tens years ago...I'm letting that battle go.

Now today? I am on record many times saying how our current QB is playing quite well...Aubrey is all pro, and our defnse sucks so hard it's ridiculous.

But...if I say Dak and his offense choked pretty hard there......I'm a hater.

Just ain't right.

What confidence would you have had that the defense would make it hold up
Not a lot. I do have a great deal of confidence in the fact that a 7 point lead with three minutes left gives the team a much better chance of a win than a tie game with 6+ minutes left does. You disagree with that?

The "the defense would have just blown it anyways", and the "the offense did good enough so can't be blamed for choking in the end", arguments are emotionally based deflections. Every series counts and some more than others.

"I thought we'd get the ball back."

Oh really? Why would he think that after not getting the ball back, other than on the kickoff after a score, the vast majority of the game?

It really illustrates Dak's core attitude. Play it safe all the way. The total lack of any sort of killer mentality shows itself in these situations every time.

If Im putting a % on it Id say that its a 10% choke job by the offense and I'm not even certain that the 10% don't belong to the coaches for the stupidity of the play calling. Reminds me of our old play caller run Elliott right into the line that's getting pushed back. We are terrible at screens and with the game on the line to boot. I didn't say you were a hater Steve but I know your opinion on things has changed more and more over the years.I think the green bay game broke you. Your not alone it broke alot of fans and Ill just leave it at that. it reminds me of the Dallas vs Denver game about 10 years or so ago when romo and Payton went it at it. Romo steps on the guard's foot and throws a pick in the end zone and they lose.

I was pissed as it gets at Romo at first and then I looked at our pathetic defense. I quit holding Romo and the offense responsible for that game he played masterfully. if your defense is so pathetic that 48 points aren't enough then your problem is the DEFENSE

I think our offense is going to put up big points against Washington but I'm not sure it will be enough. When your QB has to be near perfect and is playing at a level he hasn't achieved in 10 years your problem isn't the offense.

Its just too simplistic to blame everything on the QB and the offense and this fanbase is bad at it and has been for a long time but you do you my friend. You critique that offense HARD as you say. I must admit its week 7 and I'm already doing mock draft simulators. Its sad because i think were going to be too good to get the 3 players i really covet, Bain , Woods or Caleb Downs but hopefully the scouting department does a good job as this may be our most critical off-season in years. We got maybe 2 years in our current QBs window and we need an overhaul on defense

See why did you even have to take it here? This negates valid criticism (Dak being a turnover averse QB) with a mindless absolute. I believe the Cowboys have more 40 and 50 point games than the next 5 teams on the list combined over the last 3-4 years when Dak has been at QB. What was happening in those games? Somebody was killin somebody. This bending of reality to point the finger at Dak at every turn is madness. Generally in NFL games with 6 minutes left you can safely assume that if you punt you will get the ball at LEAST more time maybe more if your defense actually shows up. We've seen teams trade possessions 3-4 times inside of two minutes. So I am not going to pretend that a coach (or a QB) would operate as if having the ball with 7-8 minutes left on the clock is going to be their last at bat. Yes it turned out to be THIS time. But I would be shocked if you could find 10 games in the last decade that a team didn't see the ball again after the 6 minute mark. No I didn't like the playcall.. and screamed what the hell are we doing every time we tried to set up that screen/swing pass to Williams when you could see that a) our tight ends cannot block in space and b) the Panthers defense recognized it immediately. Calling it once.. okay.. calling it twice? Stoopid.

Minor correction.. that game was in 2013 and the pick was not in the end zone. It was in our own end. Still your points are valid. People twisting themselves into knots to call out the offense cannot be reasoned with. LIke you said.. the problem is not the offense.. not by a long shot. And beating them up because they don't score every possession is lunacy. "Well the other team can score every possession why can't we?" The answer is painfully simple.. The other team is facing our defense.. I think you are wrong about Dak's window though. I think Dak will play at a high level for at least another 5 years.. His currently line has an average age of about 24 and a half. His top two receivers are 24 and 26. I think we are set up for a nice 5 year run with this offense. Ferguson seems to be back on form and I love Spann-Ford. Just need to figure out the RB situation. Williams is great but realistically we will probably need his replacement in two years. Maybe that's Mafah.. I think Blue needs at least a year in the weight room. He aint ready for grown men tacklers yet.

Dak's generally been terrific this season. If you're blaming him for Sunday, you're just grinding an agenda. The defense got 3 stops in 4 quarters. That's an incredible amount of pressure on the offense, especially given that we couldn't run the ball because Derrick Brown tossed Hoffman around like an empty trash can.

If the defense continues to be this bad, we're looking a a 5-6 win season. Maybe worse. There's going to be some games where the offense just crumbles because the team is so unbalanced, and it's going to get ugly.

See why did you even have to take it here? This negates valid criticism (Dak being a turnover averse QB) with a mindless absolute.
Dude, I literally quoted Dak himself. He took it there. I brought it up as a relevant point to the discussion of expectations in crunch time. The clutch factor has been part of the discussion when it comes to athletes in general and QB's in particular for a lot longer than you or I have existed. If you haven't noticed that Dak has been very risk adverse throughout his entire career than I don't know what to tell you. This season he actually seems to be playing a bit faster and letting it go more freely. Right up until crunch time when he reverts to his core being. It is basic human nature to do that when the heat gets cranked up to high.

It appears the difference between me and you is that for some reason you need to find reasons to explain away what happened in front of us all, while I am more prone to trying to understand what happened in front of us all.

Your ending about the rarity of not getting the ball back throughout the history of the NFL speaks to this difference. You go back as far as you need to in order to provide the basis for what you have decided your opinion is. I look at first, the way that game had played out to that point, then to the immediate history of that group of players and coaches.

If you looked at the way that game had gone and the way the season had gone and realistically thought that the defense was going to make a stop and get you the ball back, well.... I don't know what to tell you.
This bending of reality to point the finger at Dak at every turn is madness.
Then there is this little nugget. Exactly what reality did I bend? The defense wasn't giving out yards like Halloween Candy? It wasn't a tie game late in the 4th qtr? The offense didn't go 3 and out losing yards in the process? The defense didn't give up the same yards they had been giving up all day? The offense didn't not get the ball back? The Cowboys didn't lose the game? Where am I bending reality?

thats right thanks for the correction and maybe you're right and oh my how some of these folks might need to be checked on if we have Dak for 5 more years.

I am not blaming Dak on this mess .......... he is playing the best he is capable of.

He is never gonna be able to win a game by himself ......... that's not the kinda QB he is.

The fault is this horrid defense and the front office who makes decisions on emotion, instead of on Football.

I don't see anyone blaming just him. Can you point it out for me, thanks!

Hey brother, I assume you are getting me and another member I responded to mixed up. He brought up Aubrey in response to me stating it's crazy everyone is piling on Dak and the offense for the last drive. I said Dak and the offense are the reason they are not 0-6. But I do agree we have an awesome kicker in Aubrey and he was clutch in the Giants game. However, without Dak and offense, we do not win the game either.
I dont think it Matters who it was addressed to I mean whatever I was reading I just responded everyone sees us we're not in a private chat room here so regardless if it was to you or just about the subject matter we were discussing I don't believe it should matter so don't take offense to stuff you have to have a thick skin in this place anyway..

That was an awful drive, it's tough on a QB when you're not getting much in your running game. Dak overall had a good game, sans that last drive. Defense is just bad...
The 1st down play was the actual call, not a checkdown. Everybody upset about that should blame Schottenheimer, not Prescott. They were no doubt trying to get a 4-5 yard play since they couldn't run the ball, get the drive going, run a little clock. 2nd down he had to get rid of the ball and no one was open, the DE looped unblocked and was in his face, not much he could do otherwise except force it into coverage. I did think on 3rd down he should've chucked it up to Pickens, but he probably didn't want to gamble, thought he'd get the ball back.

Yes, Dak calls the plays.

Haha true on thick skin. My point is Dak is on fire right now for the most part and it's crazy to blame the qb, the offense is carrying the water, the defense is costing us games, our kicker is a stud and Jerry sucks (something I think everyone can agree on).

The bending of reality is in the statement that "lack of killer mentality shows itself every time.." I was assuming it was in reference to Dak's risk averse nature mentioned in the same sentence. If that was not the case then I apologize. But the fact of the matter the Cowboys with Dak at QB have lit opposing defenses on fire many times over the past 5 years. And they have done it more than any other team in that span. So for anyone to claim that he or they "lack killer instinct" is what I would call "mindless absolute." Since they have killed many teams over the years. But to the first bold.. The defense had literally forced a 3 and out the previous possession and forced a punt two possessions before that so there was every reason to believe they could at least put up a fight with 6 minutes left in the game. So they had gotten stops on 2 of the last 3 Panthers possessions yet the OC and the QB should have expected them to just bend over and let the other team go 86 yards, eat up the last 6 minutes and never give you the ball back? Maybe I'm not the one who should look at the way the game had gone.

Did you even read the OP?
did you even read the thread title?

this is the problem i have been saying for quite some time. Assessing dak in any critical way automatically means you only blame him.

you have to go through the litany of every other issue first, before getting to dak...every time.

ridiculous.

The reality is and was the same with both Dak and Romo. Regardless of what they do, they defense ends up screwing ir up at the end.

If we take the lead with 2 minutes left in the game, we still lose 90% of the time.

So Prescott who Jerry signed and nobody liked the $60 million who CD lamb the depth on the offensive line George Pickens Ferguson's new deal aubrey who they got from the UFL that's a free agent turpin as a free agent so you're saying that the things that they're on fire and great at that Jerry had nothing to do with that I mean are you actually going to sit here and be a hypocrite and saying Jerry sucks except for the things you just complimented the team on because you act like he didn't build that offense.

I get this straight he's only responsible for the bad things but anything that's good like our offense and our special teams our head coach our coordinator who's calling the plays our offensive line coach and our OC those are all not Jerry is that what you're trying to say here and tell me I mean you can't have it both ways you're speaking out of both sides of your mouth as they used to say and you're really now stuck in a dead end alley because you're blaming Jerry for Matt Eberflu's not being very good and having a bunch of injuries on defense because he hasn't done something most first year coordinators and coaches don't they don't get fired on any team until after the season..

I just wanna make sure we're on the same page you're saying everything good about this team is not Jerry everything bad's all his fault...
