Yep, you know what,...you're right. This game is just too terrifying. Let's cancel preseason. Better yet, lets petition jerah to disband the team so we don't watch a 'scary' preseason game ever again.

LOL at people going overboard with the whole concept.

I just think we are ripe for a bad outcome and explaining why it might happen. There are legit concerns if we don't have Smith and Free out there with the quality of Miami's D line....we don't need our QB's getting the crap beat out of them in a meaningless game. Miami will be pulling out all the stops to get a win, while that isn't really a goal for Dallas.

If we can perform well given what I expect to come from Miami, it says a lot for our players.

I actually think this is one of the most important preseason games weve had in a very long time. There has to be some regression on Daks near perfect performance last week, but that being said if he can manage to play well again it will go along ways in telling us if we may indeed have something in him. After last week I fully expect a solid performance.

Yeah with Suh and his history of dirty play Id rather not have Romo out there for more than a series.

I agree about the mindset, and it is somewhat interesting looking back at last week's game. Was the choice to go for it on 4th down and try to get a first or TD the smarter option, when kicking a gimme FG might have been the nail in the coffin for the Rams. Additionally, the poor time management at the end of the game ddin't give us a chance to win the game. Maybe giving the young guys a better chance to finish out the game would have been a better choice than just playing out the string.
Poor time management and Garrett go hand in hand. Preseason or not. It's actually like his staple.

I would not sweat the comments. If Miami pulled some exotic stunt for Suh to break free on Romos blind side and Suh (who notoriously loves to hurt QB's) puposely came down on Romo's shoulder and Romo just laid there holding his arm in that same fashion we have seen before, I think there would be a lot of people in this room ready to jump off the nearest building they could find.

Yeah I am not sure any preseason game is scary. I honestly couldn't care less if we go 0-4 every preseason so long as we don't have injury problems, vets get ample time to get back into game situations, and we have sufficient look at all young players which is primary reason there is a preseason if you ask me.

Totally missing the point of my original post

As @BrassCowboy and one or two others mentioned above, preseason is about evaluating talent -- probably more so than anything else (shaking off rust for starters as the season approaches is secondary, imo). These games are very important, we don't have a minor league like an MLB team does. Can't wait to see Jenkins, Nzeocha, Prescott (duh, right!), WR Jones, and a few other cats! Obviously, most importantly, no injuries -- but these games matter and are exciting! :)

I hope Miami does play their starters longer. It will be a chance to see our backups get some valuable experience against some better players. The consequences may have people jumping off the ledge at our depth. Which does not mean anything to some of us as to how good or bad our depth may be. But it will be good for them regardless of the outcome.

Now we may, as I probably will say during the game, this or that player sucks, as I am sure Wilcox will get his share. We will also get the this guy needs to make the team comments. But come tomorrow, I may not look at it as critically as during the game. Unless it is the same mistakes / good play as last week.

It's the evaluation and what they learn from it that is most important. Then onto next week and see any improvements.

he is so hard to understand, did he say they would or wouldn't? I honestly thought he was saying yes they all practiced and yes they would all play.....but its hard to understand his responses.

You just have to know how to watch preseason football. Hardly anyone off of the two-deep defensive line is going to get much action, so yeah, that could be ugly from a team-play perspective. So don't watch the game that way. Guys like Shaneil Jenkins are going to play way earlier than he should against Miami's ones and twos. If players like him flash in that type of environment then it might mean more than it normally would. That's a plus you can draw from these types of scenarios and otherwise meaningless games.

These games really are all about putting players in difficult (not advantageous like the regular season) situations and seeing if they can gut-check through it and find some success for evaluation purposes. I personally am looking forward to watching Damien Wilson (pet cat), Derek Akunne, Jenkins, Chaz Green, and if anyone can make any type of impression at fullback at all.

Out in the real world I can always tell who I have no interest talking preseason football with when the first question out of their mouth is ... who won? I almost always say I don't know. Didn't you say you watched the whole game? Yes ...

you guys may be right. it is possible I misunderstood his tweet. He did send another tweet saying Tyron Smith probably is not playing so I hope Romo doesn't get killed.

The only potential bad outcome is an injury. Losing is not a bad outcome. Having our seconds outplayed by Miami's first, our thirds by their seconds or our thirds by their firsts are all reasonable outcomes with nothing bad about them. If our lower tier can play with Miami's higher tier that bodes well for us. If not, it's to be expected. It's a chance to see how guys perform, and a chance for some players to elevate themselves in the eyes of the coaches. Even a supposed 'bad' outcome is a potential plus. If Dak goes out and throws 4 picks it's a great opportunity to see how he bounces back next week, and if he stays as composed during the game when playing under adversity.

I just don't see the downside, provided everyone comes out healthy.
