Prince Amukamara plans to do all Combine workouts

Posted on: February 7, 2011 Like his former Nebraska teammate Ndamukong Suh, Prince Amukamara is not going to rest on his laurels at the Combine. He plans to participate fully, according to source close to him.

The 6-0, 205 pound Amukamara turned down an opportunity to partipate in the Senior Bowl, but his level of play wasn't questioned. The All-American provided lock-down coverage and physical run support in 2010. Like Suh, Amukamara entered the year as the top-rated senior prospect by several scouting organizations, including National Football Scouting which helps NFL teams coordinate the annual Combine and NFLDraftScout.com.

Despite his reputation, Amukamara has a lot riding on his workout. Questions about his true speed have been rampant ever since Oklahoma State redshirt sophomore Justin Blackmon beat him for five catches, 157 yards and two touchdowns in a showdown between the two stars October 23. See the video here.

Prince Amukamara is a good player, his biggest issue is his closing speed. Thats what makes great CBs great. If they get behind, their closing speed puts them back in the play. Amukamara has decent speed, but he lacks great closing speed.

Deion was fast, but what made him great was his closing speed. It's the reason QBs didn't like to throw his direction. He would bait the QBs by getting 5-10 yards off the WR, then as soon as the QB threw the ball, he would kick in that closing speed and be on top of the WR. Sometimes beating him to the ball and getting the INT.

If you ask me, I think Amukamara would be better suited to gain a few pounds and switch to safety. I don't think he is fast enough to play CB, and he definitely doesn't have the closing speed to do it against faster WRs.

Thats why im pimping Aaron Williams as the 2nd best Corner in this draft right now.

He reminds me a lot of Newman.

I like Williams a lot as well.

Not a big fan of the top 2 CBs

Brandon Harris and Jimmy Smith just don't fit what we have done in the past..

In Ryans scheme maybe? I haven't seen enough of what he does to determine that.

But on our fast track give me a pure cover corner like Aaron Williams.

What do you mean by this?

remember Joe Haden 40 yard dash time and look at who snagged 6 ints for cleveland last year more than anyone on our team.

Prince kind of reminds me of joe haden in last years draft matter of a fact he probably would of went before haden if they came out in the same draft.

Ted Ginn vs. Darrelle Revis

Everyone gets beat. The fact that this is the only straw those down on Prince cling to doesn't help the argument. It is just as easy to put together a clip of poor play as it is a highlight reel. Especially at the CB position where good/poor play can be so subjective given the defensive call.

Good collegiate WR routinely beat good college CB.

I remember when Aqib Talib wasn't supposed to be draftable because Jordy Nelson beat him in college. Talib had a mere 6 picks this year in 11 games and has 15 in his 3 year career.
