Goodell has plans to move the PB for the week before the Super Bowl.

How can that work?

Your 2 best teams likely have several players on the PB roster, no way you allow them to play, and are you going to have them miss practice and meetings to just go to the game?

Stupid idea.

This isn't baseball or Basketball where you can afford to play guys in a meaningless game in mid season. Leave the Pro-Bowl where it is.

I wonder if this move is not for a teams set roster, but for the guys that get cut from a team, and the players and media can vote them in?

That would give a good opportunity for the players and all the NFL teams a good idea of the players that need showcased so they can get a chance?

The probowl is a joke anyway...why make the poor good bastids that just came off a season...got get beat up again!?

I'm commissioner I abolish the game entirely. Send all the players to Hawaii and just do a bunch of skills type stuff.

I understand the premise, but the execution is impossible. You wouldn't be able to have any players from the Superbowl, and the AFC/NFC coaches would have to be changed as well, considering the current coaches are the runners-up to the conference champions.

I see no way how this can possibly work. Actuallly i think this would only help make the probowl into an even bigger joke...

This guy is just full of brilliant ideas.

This is the first idea he's come up with I don't like. Maybe I haven't heard all his ideas yet, I dunno.

But this one? It's pretty freakin' dumb.

I disagree with you guys. Yes, it would absolutely mean that you lose all SB players, reducing the quality but... I think this schedule makes it a much more attractive game. I think the pro bowl is an afterthought today. For obsessive types like us on the Zone, we are going to watch. However, for most casual fans the game is forgotten. The superbowl is over and it seems like football season should be over too.

How do you hype something after the superbowl hype? Putting the game a week before means that at the time when everyone has superbowl fever, you have a game that the NFL can sell to tide folks over. I think its an incredibly smart move!

The Pro Bowl is horrible right now, why not try something different, you can have it on the Super Bowl city to kick off SB week, obviously the SB teams players wouldn´t participate.

Well if it's for ratings, why don't we just have Powderpuff Bowl. Take the hotest chearleader from each team and have them play a game in white t-shirts with the crowd within squirtgun range.

Now that sounds like a plan. They can even only air on pay per view so they don't have to edit anything out. :D

I don't know why any commissioner would want to draw people away from the attention that the Super Bowl gets. Tags would NEVER have thought of doing something like this. Owners were basically strong-armed behind the scenes not to hire/fire new coaches, etc. for the 1-2 weeks between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl.

The SB is the end all be all in sports.

And if I had spent millions bidding for the SB and preparing my city for the Super Bowl being in your city for 2 weeks, and the NFL moved the Pro Bowl to the week before, taking players and families and attention from your event that you worked so hard for, I would be royally pissed.

I think changing the date of the pro bowl and even moving it to the city hosting the SB is a great idea. Don't see any reason why the host city would have any problem with it at all. It means there would be an extra week when more people are in town to watch the pro bowl game and eat at the restaurants and shop til they drop, etc. It will raise the pro bowl to a higher spectacle garnering more attention to it. Shouldn't bother the SB contending teams at all. Given a choice between playing in the pro bowl or in the SB which would you choose?

I love this idea!

"I don't know why any commissioner would want to draw people away from the attention that the Super Bowl gets."
I totally disagree. Making it part of the lead up to the Superbowl just highlights the Superbowl. A three hour game where Madden or whoever is making comments like "Drew Brees is playing well for the NFC but they really would be doing better if Tony Romo wasn't spending his time getting ready for the Patriots" just makes the Superbowl more exciting for average fans. Rather than an extra week of the, "Mayor of Dallas bet the Mayor of Boston a bowl of Chili versus a bowl of Chowder that the Cowboys would win"

I really admire Goodell for coming in with his no-nonsense attitude to make sure the NFL keeps its squeeky clean image(unlike other sports)-but I think he's starting to do too much and get too cute.
