On the play where he overran the RB in the backfield you can't say for certain that is on his inability to cut. Everyone who's ever played has overrun the ball. And it's foot drop not drop foot.

yup, he turned the jets full on....gotta learn 80% will still get him into the backfeild and yet be able to adjust. At 250#'s there are very very few (any?) that can do a 90 degree at full speed.....maybe full up to LOS and then already dial it back knowing he will need to match a RBcut......rb's for some reason dont want to go down in the backfeild LOL

......can any CBs do it full speed at 200#'s?..........maybe those with a 5.5 40 time :)

I think Jaylon showed progress from that injury. Barring a setback....he will get better. Let's be patient and hopeful. He was like a kid in a candy store....and understandable after that rehab.

The guy is a ball of infectious energy. What some people are seeing as an inability to cut, I see as overexuberance from a guy you would expect to be just that. One things for sure, Jaylon wants to attack the line of scrimmage. I'd rather have to dial a guy back then need to light a fire under him. He's going to be great eventually.

I'll say that it wouldn't be total outrageous for a guy coming off a horrific knee injury to take awhile to get his legs under him. I mean, people have tried to write off the 2016 for Scandrick saying it takes months and months to trust the leg again and get back full bore. It's actually not uncommon at all for players coming off major injuries to take large chunks of a season, if not a full season, to come back from serious injuries.

So why would people not give Smith the same leeway? The reality is he's a rookie with the added weight of having to come back from a bad knee injury. He might look like an average player for much of the year. That's reality. Although it won't stop the haters and the Myles Jack fans from acting like fools I suspect.

There's a difference between overrunning plays and being unable to change directions. Jaylon will be fine once he shakes off the rust for not having played in a live game for a long time. He's improved steadily since his rehab began and will continue to do so in the future. It's early yet. Kudos to Jaylon for having stuck with his recovery, despite all the odds against him. I can't wait to see how he does by year's end and in 2018.
Can't wait till he helps us win the Super Bowl this year !!!

1) I was giddy to see him on the field
2) I was nervous when he did his signature swoop move after his one tackle (he was excited, but let's stop that for now)
3) He looked rusty to me which is understandable - now that the coaches have some game film to watch, they can review that with him and help him with angles

Overall, I think it was a good debut for him; he needed to get on the field, get involved with some hits and now it can be reviewed; he came away unscathed (Amen, thank you Lord); so now it is just time to build on that....a good start

I think it is more mental than anything. It essentially was planting, after being pushed of course, that caused the injury in the first place when his foot got stuck in the ground. So I can see him being cautious about planting and with change of direction.

I think that you hit the nail on the head. A lot of it is mental. You have that lingering doubt after a major injury like he had and it takes a while to trust that it does what it's supposed to do again. I would play him some next week and then as much as possible the last preseason game.

Yeah. Was surprised by Rod Smith..he showed something!

He's been my pet cat from the get-go, way before TC began. I was even upset last year when he was relegated to the PS. Put him practically anywhere but on the OL and he's likely to hold his own and then some. He looks to be getting stronger with each preseason game. ;)
