So I was going through this in my lovely head this morning and came to the conclusion that Free has the highest probability of starting at LT on opening day. In limited time, over the course of a few weeks, he showed that he could play a solid RT. One could easily argue he should start at RT over Columbo and they wouldn't miss a beat. I, personally, was very impressed with Free's game play when given the opportunity to showcase himself to the team brass. - 50%

Leonard Davis has started at LT in AZ and, IMO, failed miserably. He is better suited to operate in limited space and is a beat at Guard. When having to move laterally to cover quick ends Bigg is at a disadvantage. I know the talk has always been that we have him just in case we need a fill in at LT but I hope that talk never turns into anything of substance. He is right where he serves us best. - 30%

A young draft pick will not be able to come in and fill the role right out of the gates. It's too tall of a task to ask that of a college player. Sure, some have done it but how well have they performed in their first year? Sure.. Some will point to Jake Long but I submit to them... Name more than 5 that have done it successfully. - 20%

I feel much better about our prospects at LT knowing that we have Doug Free prepping in the off-season to make that push.

Of course Free is going to be the starter.

I doubt that there was any chance of a rookie starting at LT.

With the Cowboys picking at #27, any tackles chosen will probably not be better (initiailly) than Free.

At this juncture I'm happy taking the best available guard or center and taking an OT in rounds 3 or 4.

Agree. We definitely need "quality depth" on the Oline. I can see a scenario playing out where they choose a Safety with that first pick and then load up on quality Olinemen in the draft. We'll be fine.

Mark my words... This draft will shore up the depth concerns on the Oline. I like everything this FO is doing right now (incl Wade). Have faith.

The fact that we have no idea what they're up to (as evidenced by the Flo/Ken release) is an indication that they're doing things the right way. Keep it in the bag until the time is right and them let it flow. Love it.

This although I won't be upset with them picking an OT at 27. It makes more sense to get the number one guard or center though.

Barring injury, there's no chance Free isn't starting at LT.

I can't wait to see it. I'm really excited to see the guy get a full off-season in as preparation to start at LT.

So would it be safe to say (or speculate) that if we remain at 27 we're looking OT but if we engineer a trade to move up we're looking Safety in the 1st round?

I think we're going to sit around 27 and wait to see if there's a certain safety, WR, OG, or linebacker that falls to us. We may jump up a few spots if one of those four targeted guys gets close. Otherwise, we likely trade back a bit if there's a taker. I don't think OT is in the picture at 27.

I don't think so either. Why LB? Aren't we sitting pretty good at that position right now? I could see Safety or OG. We'll sign Miles and Tree will step up this year. Perhaps a WR in the later rounds..

Perhaps a Taylor Mays at 27? All indications are that Earl Thomas is a pipe dream at that spot. I wouldn't be upset at all with Mays at 27.

We could still use an ILB. I thought I read they were interested in Weatherspoon. The rest may all be pipe dreams, but every year someone falls, so it you have four or so guys you're targeting, chances aren't terrible that one will fall.

I just hope Free is hitting the weights harder now than he ever has in his life.

What if Dallas drafts Iupati and wants him at RG, then put Davis @ LT, then have Free / Colombo battle for the starting RT and the loser becomes the swing tackle.

I wouldn't want Bigg at LT but people in the org seem to think he can do it.

I'm thinking this scenario is nothing more than a fail safe just in case, for some strange reason, Free doesn't pan out. Free can obviously go one of two ways. He can either rejoice in the fact that he is finally getting a chance to showcase his talent and work his butt off in the off-season to ensure his mind and body are ready or get the big head and forget that it takes incredibly hard work to survive at the NFL level. I have seen nothing from him that would indicate he hasn't already been rejoicing and working hard all off-season.

Ideally BIGG will not move to LT but don't put it past Jerry who said he can play there. I disagree because he has a tendency to get beat by the quicker rushers, obviously playing inside he is the better player.

Free looked like "Trash among Diamonds" vs Minn.

;)

Then I'd declare the FO to be stupid and would sit back and wait for the 5-11 season to come.

I'm really interested in seeing what JWill can do given a full off-season to get ready. That said, yes. We could definitely use more talent at that position but I believe we'll find that in the later rounds. We seem to do fairly well finding LBs in the later rounds. Recent finds... Bradie James (4th), Jason Willams (3rd), Victor Butler (4th)

In all fairness, many a LT that have started man a game at LT look like "trash among diamonds" when trying to corral Jared Allen... The sky is still up there.
