Progress Report: Gallup Takes Another Step Forward

I agree but if they don't intend to resign they can get a 2nd for him I think. Dallas isn't going to be contenders this season or next most likely. They need to stack draft picks especially since they never use FA to improve the team. Hard to see dallas being able to pay a wr #2/3 12-15 per is my point
Agreed on the future pay. Disagree on the Cowboys not being contenders. Cowboys should win the NFC East every year the next 3-4 years if they draft wisely and keep the correct core players in place.

I agree they can win the nfce for sure its been a bad division for a long time besides the eagles sb win. Dallas has an easy on paper schedule for this season. For sure the most Favorable schedule we've had since 16.i dont think dallas is way far off but but I think they can be there in 2 seasons. Hopefully not 3 like I'm really thinking it'll take them to get to that level.

I really like Gallup, but you were never going to keep everyone. I'd take a minimum of a third for him this year. A third this year is better than a third round comp pick next year. One way to field a competitive team with a QB taking such a large percentage of the cap is to surround him with talented 1st contract guys.

I'd try to get as many of those 2-4 round picks as possible without trading a way a strength in an otherwise thin position.

Good that the drops were down, but I'd cash out now. We have plenty of receiving targets on offense. Cash out Gallup now into picks and use them for defense.
Other teams need Gallup more than we do.

Plenty (without Gallup) that consistently produce?

Gallup is a great 2nd reciever. Don't think he will transition into a great first as he seems to disappear alot.

Well the same could be said for Cooper....granted that is his MO around the league however you still need to cover/ double cover him
sorry but Gallup is #1 on other teams , 32 teams there are bottom 16 teams that wished they had Gallup, you can call him a 2 here but teams like Philly last year, i see CHI with Robinson , gallup every but as good or better then any of the players they trotted out..judging a guy in his 4th season thats improved yearly because hes played next to other great WRs is clouding that assessment. Ive seen him make #1 plays many times in his career, not 9 routes sideline catches , over the shoulder grabs, contested grabs..he tough, hes poor man dez right now but that who he reminds me of..

now is he untradeable, no but it would have to be a steal for our team , the trade would need to be more then hes worth..if not the plan should be keep gallup ,. keep lamb and if needed get both cheaper longer and trade AC 2022..when Dak makes 40 you need to finds ways to cut bloated contracts and churn the 3rd-4th WR spots year..

He can be if given the targets.

He can be if given the targets.
that was my point..he may not be a true #1A elite super receiver but like other positions there are levels, Daks not elite he got paid hes looked at as 1 well gallups a 1B type..

Then neither was Aikman, Romo by the same standards imo.

Cooper could be cut after this season. He is due 60 million over 2022-2024.

daks not better then them but this is Gallup thread..point is and was there are levels of #1 starters and Gallups a #1 just not a true élite 1..i will take healthy Aikman or Romo over dak every day and twice on Sunday..I like dak , hope hes very successful. Hes improved a lot but still has a lot of work to do in the pocket and delivering balls to guys on time and leading them more often, he waits far to long to let it go looking for more open target. Sorry its true.. not saying he isnt good but i liked Aikman and Romos pocket presence better, the ay the pre-snap reads were obvious.

Gallup might not be the 1st.

but CLamb will be.

Another option is you trade Gallup and a 2nd to move back into the 1st and grab your higherst rated DT or OT. Or a safety if the value is there

I like Gallup and have no problems keeping him another year. But if the opportunity is there, Jerry should take advantage

But this is Jerry we are talking about.

If they trade/lose Gallup, they still have Coops huge contract.

Gallup is a interesting situation. If we trade him, I would hold out for a 2nd. Even if we would have to sweeten the deal a little by adding a late pick. Gallup in free agency is going to get a lot more money than people think. Wouldn’t be surprised at a contract that is around 18 million a year. I know there is talk about having to choose between Cooper and Gallup next year but financially it’s not going to be that much of a difference. The only exception would be if Gallup is willing to take a hometown discount before the start of next years free agency.

The unique skill Gallup does is high pointing the ball. There have been multiple plays in which he basically wins jumps balls. (not Dez like). But if Gallup is traded it’s also why I wouldn’t be totally against drafting Pitts. But we need that extra 2nd rounder to help out the defense.

Michael Gallup, AKA "3rd. round compensatory pick" should have another productive season. There's only so many balls to go around with Gallup, Cooper, lamb, Wilson, Jarwin, Schultz, Elliott and Pollard. But Gallup will no doubt make his share of plays for us before he moves on to greener pastors. He represented good value as a third round pick. The ugly side of hitting on a draft pick is that you face the real possibility of not being able to retain his services because of the cap.

Gallup isn’t the cap problem.

Coop is.

Dallas only takes a 6 million cap hit if they cut Cooper after 2021.

or pay Coop 60 million over 2022-2024.

or pay Gallup.

easy choice.

Love the guy but, he needs to net the Cowboys a defensive player that will work. Can't afford to pay him in 2022.

not an easy choice AC is better and him leaving puts more pressure on lamb and gallup as the #1 DBS start lining up against them. we dont know their production when that happens..

yes money wise it might not be avoidable, dak wanted his money, well he will sacrifice his best WR..business side of football and dak chose the money..

qwe must see this season as all in window closes season on many like JS, Dlaw, EE, and AC could all be gone as cap casualty's in 2022..i hope they go high risk all in attitude to the off season and not be looking forward just ,maximize the talent on this team for run NOW..
