Lazer focus on him??

I have no idea what you are talking about. This thread is the only one I saw on this player, Mrs Smith.
He's been discussed nonstop all year. If he was what some expected then what? We beat green Bay? Man shut up goofy

Crazy thing about Mazi is that he actually gotten better the back half of the season compared to the first half. Granted he went from liability on the field to a non factor he did improve his get off and showed a solid bull rush move as a pass rusher (nothing to go with it though).

Next year is make or break for Mazi. I'd give him a full offseason at the pro level before closing the book on the guy, but he needs to show a bigger step forward in 2024.

Posters following the teams first round pick most weeks doesn't seem odd to me. Sorry if it offends you.

Terrible pick.

Even if he pans out it’s an awful awful pick unless he can impact the QB.

Moving a guy to 3T whose weakness is quickness off the snap is an indication that someone doesn't have any idea what the hell they are doing.
Thank you, its weird and we'll probably not get an explanation of why and whose idea this was.

They took the highest rated DT. If I recall Philly and Tampa both took DTs so Dallas got the 3rd choice. Still I didn't think he would be that bad. A few years back they did well drafting DTs in the 5th or 6th round. They should take one or two in late rounds. I'm willing to give him an offseason to bulk up and learn how to play. The thing that bothers me is the slow get off. He should fire off the ball. He's definitely a disappointing 1st round pick, but if he can stay motivated he might develop. He's guaranteed $13M and they already have given him half of that in a signing bonus. He probably only has 1 or 2 years to show something. This pick the Taco pick , the Vander Esch pick. They really hurt.

When you draft a big fat guy with a slow first step and no pass rush traits and then he loses weight … this is what you get
:hammer:

Listening to some of the final DC podcasts today and a lot of talk about the disappointing draft. What you just wrote is the summary from all of them too.

Most of them blame the poor draft on reaching for positions. A lot of talk about being more active in free agency on both lines instead of forcing it through the draft.

Think Bass is the only one consensus pick anyone thinks we hit on, an UDFA.

Entire draft last year was poop. Not sure what happened considering we had been drafting so well.
I still think Overshown will be good, although without Quinn I'm not sure how he will fit.

As long as he stays healthy and recovers from his ACL too, he’ll be fine. I would sign and draft LB support as if he wasn’t there. Otherwise, we end up in the same situation, where we are grasping for straws for back up due to injuries. LB and D-Line will need a lot of focus if we want to stop being a team the good franchises can run over.

Anybody who keeps with the conspiracy theory that he lost 40 lbs is ridiculous he was 327 lbs at the combine now is anybody stalking him in his bathroom to tell us how many pounds he actually is now I mean literally show me how much he weighs before I hear this dumb stuff he is going to be better come another offseason with some more trainers and figure out where he needs to improve not everybody's good year one day one get over it people nobody's cutting it first round pick before they give him a chance to improve

The head of the draft thought Mazi could help the team "now".
This what happens when you build purely through the draft and ignore FA.

They took Mazi, re-signed a declining Hankins and thought that was enough for the DT spot. Mazi was never a "now" player in 2023-24. The run defense never improved at all this year. LVE injury was a non factor.

Yep...quit drafting horribly overrated Michigan players...they suck. Cheated to get their natty too. Disgraceful.

He was drafted as 1T who was to occupy blockers and free up linebackers/second level defenders.

It was discovered early on that he has a slow reaction time to the snap of the ball.

Then about midseason or a little there after, it was reported he had lost weight to like 290. I don't know how true that was but along with that was the fact that he was used more as the 3T than the run stuffing 1T he was drafted to be which left me a little confused.

So right now he's this mis match of a 3T/1T hybrid defensive tackle who is very slow twitch. And not as strong on the field as his weight room displays at TC.

We are in the midst of his "development."
Or so I'm told.

Smith, who has lost weight during the season and weighs no close to the 328 pounds the Cowboys have listed on the roster, got a good learning experience experience against the Bills.

Starts at 11:47 about weight loss. At 15:19 they mention too he's under 300lb.

And I know McClay deserves a lot of credit but this is the guy he fought for in that draft room. That scares me
