On a day where everybody on defense was an F minus, somehow he ended with the lowest grades. I wish I was surprised. The club certainly bares responsibility (not only for the pick) but the whole weight loss, out of position, what is his function on defense fiasco. Season is over. Let see if someone can salvage this kids career because right now it looks to be headed south in a hurry.

Nothing against the player.

But you want your first round pick to be an instant starter to call your draft a good one. Especially when your actual starter is just medicore.

This is another example that we are not a good drafting team. And Will McClay and our drafting staff is overrated.

We are not bad but we are far from being great or good. But that its the narrative that JJ likes and needs to put out to sell his brand.
Just imagine the defamation for our FO that wants to prove it can build thru the draft but is not able to draft good players.

They wasted this man career. Why do you think most quality FA do not come to Dallas?

They are not trying to hurt their FA stock afterwards. We have to trade for or overspend for quality FAs

I mean Quinn should be fired for asking him to lose weight.
He wasn't good when fat but don't try to turn a NT body into Aaron Donald

He was drafted as 1T who was to occupy blockers and free up linebackers/second level defenders.

It was discovered early on that he has a slow reaction time to the snap of the ball.

Then about midseason or a little there after, it was reported he had lost weight to like 290. I don't know how true that was but along with that was the fact that he was used more as the 3T than the run stuffing 1T he was drafted to be which left me a little confused.

So right now he's this mis match of a 3T/1T hybrid defensive tackle who is very slow twitch. And not as strong on the field as his weight room displays at TC.

We are in the midst of his "development."
Or so I'm told.
Maybe if they weighed one buttcheek!!!

Let's face it. The draft is a crap shoot - whether you're picking at #1 or #100.

Box of chocolates.

They took the highest rated DT. If I recall Philly and Tampa both took DTs so Dallas got the 3rd choice. Still I didn't think he would be that bad. A few years back they did well drafting DTs in the 5th or 6th round. They should take one or two in late rounds. I'm willing to give him an offseason to bulk up and learn how to play. The thing that bothers me is the slow get off. He should fire off the ball. He's definitely a disappointing 1st round pick, but if he can stay motivated he might develop. He's guaranteed $13M and they already have given him half of that in a signing bonus. He probably only has 1 or 2 years to show something. This pick the Taco pick , the Vander Esch pick. They really hurt.
Jaylon, Schooner, Kelvin

We sure have a lot of really bad misses for McClay being such a great drafter.

he needs a martial arts coach. He has no hand game. Can't control arms. Rarely turns anyone. Just smashes straight into the guy in front of him.

He’s a BUST and I don’t see that changing. It was a swing and a big miss. Can’t remember missing on our first two picks as bad as we did with him and Schoonmaker.

When you draft a big fat guy with a slow first step and no pass rush traits and then he loses weight … this is what you get
And we are told over and over and over again, how the Cowboys draft is so much better. Better compared to what? D to a C ???? Taco Charlton, Trystan Hill, Schoonmaker, Jaylon Smith and now Mazi. This is the so-called, better draft?

I don't think it matters who we draft anyway. That's been proven over nearly three decades.

It doesn’t seem to matter. None of them ever show up in the playoffs. Even the ones that have been good picks. Our best players never show up when it matters most.
