I've cut Crawford and and did not resign Collins just to be realistic. I've used rumored asking prices. Here's what happens when you resign all your stars.

1. Dak 33 million (est)
2. DLAW 21.9 million
3. Cooper : 20 million (est)
4. Zeke : 16 million (est)
5. Zach : 15 million
6. Byron Jones: 15 million (est)
7. Tyron: 13.5
8. Freddie 12 million

So, thats 146.4 million or 74% of our cap (198 million est) going to 8 guys. Granted these are rough estimates based on contracts that haven't been signed and some of this can be muted by restructuring.............but we have to field a team and pay 45 other guys. What do you think the depth on that team is going to look like? To say we are top heavy is an understatement and not the first time Jones has made this mistake.

1. Dak: 19mil
2. D-Law: 21.9mil
3. Cooper: 15mil
4. Zeke: 9mil
5. Martin: 15mil
6. Jones: 13.5mil

PS I think they let Jones walk. Very good talent but not a must keep imo.

Dak's number is based off Wentz contract number.
Cooper's is based off Thomas new deal
Zeke is based off Gurley's contract
Jones is based off X. Howards contract.

Zeke isn't signing for 9. Dak isn't signing for 19. You are not even in the ballpark.

Looking at the cap during the current year, what's interesting to me is how many "safe" one year deals are signed on this team.

This team could look completely different next season, and we have to sign Jaylon as well.

They'll tender him and then work on his extension over the offseason. Especially at the pace the Cowboys do their re-signings now.

The numbers you use for salary are probably in the ball park but in the 1st year most of those cap hit numbers will be alot lower due to the signing bonus each guy gets and that being spread out over 5 years, they will be ok in 2020 where these deals start to hurt is 2021 and on. I would estimate the cap figure to be around 130m in 2020 using those numbers then jumping big in 2021 and even bigger in 2022

I don't think Byron Jones gets paid IMO.

I think it's likely we keep Anthony Brown and/or Jourdan Lewis and let him walk.

Well, the premise is to sign all your stars. You are probably correct but a lot depends on how the young guys do this year.

Fair point. But that just kicks the can down the road......as you pointed out. Rodgers got a 57 million dollar signing bonus which is the largest in league history. So, if Dak signs for 5 years and 165 million and gets a 60 million dollar bonus....... that is really piling it on the last 4 years.

yup, and that is never a good thing because it is in those years that the restructures happen because they need to get under the cap pushing things even farther down the road

Keep cap hits low early on when the guaranteed money is due. Once the guaranteed money dries up or becomes significantly lower than cap hit the team moves on or restructures.

Cowboys like to have higher base salaries in the mid.end of contracts so they can restructure the deal and convert the base to signing bonus. Lowers the cap hit for that year and the player still gets paid.

I agree that they let Jones walk. Actually surprised they haven’t extended Brown now

It’s why in Cap era it’s so critical to have success before you need to pay everyone. Because once that begins the team begins to fade without the depth.

And why I’m saying the future is now. Our best window to win a championship with this core won’t be open long.

I agree. I think this year is our best chance, though I still think we go 9-7.

The more talent we field the greater chance we have.

Assuming we field everyone from last year coupled with draft picks, off season acquisitions and signings contribute and our opponents haven improved greatly over last year we should be a reasonable contender in division and conference.

Its not a talent issue. Its Garret and the in-game adjustments or lack of them which usually sink the ship.

I hear ya. But it’s been enough to take us to the brink of a championship appearance. It’s not like we haven’t been close.

This group got trounced by the Rams in the divisional round. The score was not indicative of how badly they got beat.
