Projected 2020 Cowboy cap

This group got trounced by the Rams in the divisional round. The score was not indicative of how badly they got beat.
Yea but the two losses to Packers was marginally close. A couple plays the difference.

Even last year as much as Rams dominated it came down to one final drive to possibly extend the game.

If our coaching was that bad we would even make the playoffs.

The 2014 group with Romo, Dez, and Murray got the closest and was probably the best team we have fielded since the 90's. 8 pro bowlers can overcome a lot of coaching problems.

We are a talent driven franchise. If it’s credited for carrying us to the brink of a championship appearance then it can be held responsible for not breaking thru.

Can’t have it both ways. Much like can’t blame coaching for not going further while not crediting going as far as they do. Otherwise it become agenda driven analytics.

Sometimes the opponent is simply better and or makes more plays. Look at all the great teams and coaching we had in our glory years. Unfortunately we sometimes faced greater teams and their talent made more plays.

8 Pro Bowlers on that team. 6 All Pros too. Only issue is none of those guys were on defense and #12 made 'em pay.

If Murray doesn't fumble that ball, we play Seattle in the NFCC.

The 13 Pro Bowlers was 2007 team.

I’d agree the 2014 offense was best since 90’s but not defense .

I thought we got closer in 2016. One miraculous Rodgers 3rd and 20 from championship appearance. In 2014 even if catch is counted we’d of had to stop Rodgers with 4 minutes left.

We just haven’t had the balance offensively and defensively to put it all together.

Yep coulda woulda shoulda.. and if we make a stop on 3rd and 20 we play for another SB appearance.

The problem is we just haven’t consistently made a playoff push. Hopefully we’re beginning to become more prolific playoff contenders .

The 2016 loss to GB was a coaching disaster as well. It was 21-0 before they took their foot off the gas and let us creep back in.

Then the coaching deserves some credit for making adjustments to come back.

Can’t blame coaching on one hand but not give credit in the other.

Fair point. But that just kicks the can down the road......as you pointed out. Rodgers got a 57 million dollar signing bonus which is the largest in league history. So, if Dak signs for 5 years and 165 million and gets a 60 million dollar bonus....... that is really piling it on the last 4 years.
You can just restructure and convert that salary into signing bonus at the end of the contract.

I've cut Crawford and and did not resign Collins just to be realistic. I've used rumored asking prices. Here's what happens when you resign all your stars.

1. Dak 33 million (est)
2. DLAW 21.9 million
3. Cooper : 20 million (est)
4. Zeke : 16 million (est)
5. Zach : 15 million
6. Byron Jones: 15 million (est)
7. Tyron: 13.5
8. Freddie 12 million

So, thats 146.4 million or 74% of our cap (198 million est) going to 8 guys. Granted these are rough estimates based on contracts that haven't been signed and some of this can be muted by restructuring.............but we have to field a team and pay 45 other guys. What do you think the depth on that team is going to look like? To say we are top heavy is an understatement and not the first time Jones has made this mistake.

Very underrated issue with this “young” team. Jaylon Smith? How do you pay him?

Jaylon and god forbid any of our DBs have a good year, its going to be impossible to sign them and the big 3 on offense. I was reading today that we have offered Dak, Zeke, and Cooper contracts that would put them in the top 5 at their positions............but they aren't hearing any counters from these agents. We want to negotiate but it takes 2 to tango.

They lost the game. "Almost" doesn't count in the NFL. Nobody is giving the Dallas coaches credit for that game other than you.

This sucks! I hate the Cap. I say don't pay the money to the RB, invest to QB, WR, Oline and Defense. Trade Zeke and draft a 3rd - 5th RB next year.

i don’t recall using “ Almost”.

I’m just saying if you’re going to blame them for falling behind they should get credit for coming back to make a game of it. Your emphasis appeared to be in the slow start not the stronger finish which appears to be using certain segments to spin your narrative.

From Stephens interview today on the fan, it really sounds like they offered Zeke 13.5-14 million. He said Bell reset the markets at 13.65. He said they’ve made a “generous offer to Zeke”.

Yep and why it’s critical to win before all of their contracts come up. The future is now.

Bottom line is that Zeke and Jones need to go. If they can not sign Zeke by week one they need to trade him. The chatter with his situation does not look good.
