The most comp picks we can accrue is four, assuming we lose at least four more UFA's than free agents signed. That's looking like a real possibility since Stephen likes to pinch pennies in free agency. Comp picks are awarded based on a few factors, but mainly depending on the value of the contract, playing time, and post-season honors.

Players lost so far:
SS Barry Church (4 years, 26 mil = 6.5/yr)
LG Ron Leary (4 years, 35 mil = 8.75/yr)
DT Terrell McClain (4 years, 21 mil = 5.25/yr)

Notable Free Agents:
Terrance Williams
JJ Wilcox
Morris Claiborne
Brandon Carr

Quite a few other FA's, but those are the guys I expect to command the most money in FA and factor into the comp pick equation.

Romo doesn't count into this equation since he was released (edit: now possibly traded) and not a true UFA (according to http://overthecap.com/the-basics-and-methodology-of-projecting-the-nfls-compensatory-draft-picks/
which actually credits AdamJT13's work on their site.)

As of right now, using projections based off the 2016 free agent signings, (https://overthecap.com/projecting-2017-compensatory-draft-picks/)

We'd be looking at three comp picks since we've lost three free agents and signed none:
4th rounder for Leary
4th rounder for Church
5th rounder for McClain

Where do the comp pick gurus estimate we are are in terms of the formula? I know we have signed a few lower tier guys today but they weren't pocket change guys.

2018:

1st
2nd
3rd
4th
4th(comp)
5th
5th(comp)
5th(comp)
6th
7th

That's 10 draft picks . We could yield another if someone's signs Wilcox,mo, or Carr for big money. The max Comp picks is 4.

Carroll is worth a 6th. Moore and Paea are 7ths. I'm not sure how the cancellations work.
As of right now, we would only receive a 4th round comp pick for Leary.

The Moore, Paea, and Carroll signings cancel out the comp picks we would have received for Church, McClain, and Crawford.

Sort of hate picking up guys and losing the comp picks unless they are an upgrade or come cheaper than the guys we lost. Wha do you guys think of our new CB? Upgrade or not?

No way bro church got 6 million a year . We haven't signed anyone close to that. Paea got 2 million, Moore signed for minimum .It has to be a player who signed equal value. Caroll cancels crawford because they signed same deal.

Edit depending on what McClains base salary is year 1 Paea could actually cancel him out. Moore won't cancel out anything it was minimum contract.

Leary played a ton of snap. He played 7 out of 8 games or 88% of snaps. That could kick him up to a 3rd.

Barry Church cost us no draft picks, and a modest amount of money. He played well for us and was the captain of the secondary.

If on top of all that he nets us a nice comp pick...he'll go down as one hell of a nice pickup.

That dude played hard and missed little time. Thank you Barry!
