Gotta have them Comp Picks, since the Draft is the only way Jerry is willing to build a roster.
I was happy to see Philadelphia wasn't on there again. Then I read an article last week that said they will have 2 twos, 2 threes, 2 fours, & 2 fives from draft day trades they did with other teams. The 2nd 2 coming from the Reddick trade if he plays the majority of the season. But at least this year they don't have any compensatory pics. I hear next year there's going to be a lot of talent in the draft. This year was said to not be a very talented group as a result of the coronavirus. I hope we do better with the later round picks.
I believe the Smith comp pick is capped at a 5th rounder because of his age. He could have the greatest season in offensive line history and it will still be just a 5th. Now of course it could go lower if he does Tyron things and misses a lot of time. And how well they perform with the new team vs. how well their replacement plays for the old team. And post season awards. No where can I find the exact formula.
So let's say Tyron Smith goes off and has a All-Pro year and wins the SB. Meanwhile, Guyton is our LT and struggles while learning to play LT. Our "Compensatory value" for Smith goes up.
Conversely, If Guyton has a good year and makes the Pro-Bowl, but Smith struggle with injuries and only plays 4 games; our "compensatory value" on Smith goes down.
Sure you can. Can't trade comp picks.
Didn’t they change that rule like 2 years ago? Can't trade comp picks.
The formula doesn't work because these players that the cowboys are losing aren't signing high dollar deals relative to their peers. The formula is heavily favored to teams that lose high dollar players which cowboys aren't. Tyron only signed a single year incentive based deal, Tyler left on a 30 million deal, and Williams left on a 14 million dollar deal.Kind of bizarre that you can lose three pro bowl players in free agency, not sign anyone of note, and only warrant 5th and 6th round comp picks. The formula doesn't seem to work.
It's also only a single year deal so it's not going to have enough overall value to be high on the list. The lowest 4th comp from this year was a 52 million dollar deal and the projected low 4th for next year is someone who signed a 39 million dollar deal.I believe the Smith comp pick is capped at a 5th rounder because of his age. So it‘s contract size and a combination of performance of the player leaving and the player replacing him. I‘d love to see this algorithm, seems a bit subjective, doesn’t it?And how well they perform with the new team vs. how well their replacement plays for the old team. And post season awards. No where can I find the exact formula.

Being a single year deal means nothing. They are basing Tyrons deal on the base value since he hasn't earned the incentives yet. It's also only a single year deal so it's not going to have enough overall value to be high on the list. Yes you canCan't trade comp picks.
No single year means even with max incentives it won't reach the value of the 4th round comps let alone 3rd.Being a single year deal means nothing. They are basing Tyrons deal on the base value since he hasn't earned the incentives yet.
The Reddick pick is for 2026, not 2025.I was happy to see Philadelphia wasn't on there again. You're right. I verified it with 2 different sources. In it was a sports writer that covers Philadelphia routinely that wrote the article that I read a week ago. He was wrong. The Reddick pick is for 2026, not 2025.
Well crud, I'm late on that rule change lolYes, they can. The rule was changed in 2017 to allow teams to trade comp picks.
If Jerry had picked up Lance's 5th year option at the price it would have cost, the proof of senility would have been unquestioned.it just don't matter. look at that senile old man he flips a 4th for a qb he never going to use and to top it off he doesn't pickup his 5th year option a pick thrown away so its just among the idiot ways this fo called the jones's family i would say more like the adams family an i think they had more intelligence
The QB that the Cowboys owner\GM traded for had a 5th-year option salary = $22.5 million...so you would have been ok if Jones would have picked it up?it just don't matter. look at that senile old man he flips a 4th for a qb he never going to use and to top it off he doesn't pickup his 5th year option a pick thrown away so its just among the idiot ways this fo called the jones's family i would say more like the adams family an i think they had more intelligence
you can nowCan't trade comp picks.
