News: Proposal to ban tush push FAILS by two votes, sources say

Spiking the ball? It usually is happening when a team is trying to win it comeback. I wouldn’t call those boring.
I would. Any play that intentionally does not advance the ball should be banned. I also believe an incomplete forward pass that hits the ground behind the line of scrimmage should be considered a fumble. And a pass that goes out of bounds without being touched by an offensive player should not stop the clock.

Fair caught punt. Immediately takes the wind out of a potentially exciting play

Throwing the ball away

Extra points

Kneedowns

Spiking the ball

letting kicks fall harmlessly into the endzone for an accepted touchback

Running out of bounds instead of picking up more yards so you can manipulate the clock

Are any of these more exciting than a team attempting to pick up a first down on a legal play?

actually THAT would be banned as well if the rule was changed
Ah I didn’t know that. So basically any play where another player pushes the ball carrier. I guess I still don’t care that much but it makes more sense then.

That probably affected the outcome of the vote. All they had to do was add “behind the line of scrimmage” to the ban and it’d fix that

Will be banned next year. How 2 more teams didn’t vote ban it is crazy. Hope Philly gets ol hurt this year doing it
It was a lot closer this year than last year. Last year it was defeated by a huge margin I think, or maybe it was decided not to be voted on at all.

Only 2 votes this year. Next year it probably passes.

They are not.

Eight of the nine teams that voted against banning it don’t play the Eagles this year. Why give any other team an advantage you don’t get? And if you had to pick one team other than Philly that has an outstanding top NFL offensive line and a head coach open to trying any kind of play?

If you picked the Detroit Lions, that’s the team that voted against banning the tush push and does play the Eagles this season. It can be proposed again, but there’s always going to be teams that don’t play the Eagles in an upcoming season. Next year they’ll remember the eight with the “too bad for you” vote today.

SO you basically want to eliminate comeback wins or last second scores lol:

It’s an awesome play no doubt. Having said that no one ran the QB sneak better than Tom Brady.

Posting the animated gif below before the claim Philadelphia created anything is repeated. The tush push is a rugby scrum modified for use in the NFL. Essentially, it is a cheat code that the owners collectively have not yet fully endorsed as legally official.

Excellent post right here. I didn't know this. I just knew it's not the football I know.

The tush push is a maul, not a scrum. No one is locking arms and driving. No one is holding the ball. No one is initiating a block. This is not a tush push. I played rugby for ten years after I played football. I do know the difference. If anything, it takes the concept of organized mass and applies it to line play.

Maybe I'm wrong then. I just assumed everyone else felt like me. I don't like the QB tush push. I don't mind runners doing it after they've passed by another offensive player. I just don't like the QB doing it.

But maybe I'm in the minority. We'd probably have to do a poll.

Re: Analytics. Fans might not like the rule, which makes them slightly less engaged.
Reality is if it were the Chargers who made it successful or the Browns or the Cardinals or even the Cowboys themselves, you’d get a very different answer to that poll here than for the team who actually does it

People can say their opinion is “unbiased”, but every opinion anyone has ever had has been built by foundations of personal bias. Subjectivity at its core is the inherent bias toward a non-objective circumstance
