"Prospect Fatigue" Options at 12

Eagles took Smith in the top 15 and just won the Super Bowl.

Also - this is a weak class so WRs that are usually be available in the late 1st are bumped up.

I’m also not sure there’s a universe where a championship caliber team in todays NFL #2 receiving option catches 40/50 balls.
Agree - Tolbert & Cooks combined to be the #2 and had 75 catches between the both. Besides in this draft it’s only McMillan, Golden, Burden and Egbuka that can serve that role. No draft expert here but if we can’t draft one of those for the #2, I wouldn’t spend a pick other than a late one on a WR.

My question is what kind of a WR will TMac be in the pros? Will he be used like a possession receiver? Will he be like a Michael Gallup making contested catches and some circus grabs but no much else?

The Cowboys have CeeDee, and he is versatile as a receiver. What would make the best compliment to CeeDee? Would it be a guy with speed, like Golden? or would it be a guy like TMac?

If you think it is a speed guy then why not see if Bond is available in the 2nd round? He had the send highest top speed on this draft class at the combine. That means he will be the better downfield threat.

I think the question is, do the Cowboys need another WR1? or wait to draft amore complimentary WR as a WR2?
I don’t think the type really matters…just give me someone that can get open and make plays. Tet can win at all 3 levels, has inside / outside versatility and is arguably the best red zone WR in the draft.

I’d still throw darts in later rounds with guys with loud traits. Maybe small schoolers with big production.

Can’t get open in college. Relies on his size to box out the defenders. Ball skills of the CBs he’s going to face at this next level will be much greater than 90% of what he faced in college.

They'll see this year when he has average red zone production. They'll blame his quarterback

Yea, look what we traded Amari for. You understand teams looking to trade expensive players are always going to get less draft capital than ideal when theyre trying to unload contracts right?

And again, you’re limiting his rankings to the few media scouts that have him later than what I’ve referenced. The consensus rankings have him significantly higher in the top 10.
Cooper looked to possibly be a descending player.
His contract was designed from the beginning so that they could walk away from it after 2 seasons.
Lamb emergence as a legit #1 gave them that option.
Draft capital was never the goal in the decision to trade him… the goal was to clear the cap space to bring back Vander Esh, Fowler etc etc

“Can’t get open in college” is an interesting take for someone that has 3K+ yards the last 3 years in college.

Cooper had over 3K yards his last 3 years in Dallas…we got fleeced bc our owner is an idiot.

I love a good debate but this is getting pretty lopsided with the misinformation you’re trying use.

I’m all set here bud - enjoy your weekend.

He barely eclipsed 800 yards, had chronic plantar fasciitis, and it was CDs time!

He’s not open. He’s using his size to box out corners who will never even sniff at a practice squad.
He won’t have that luxury at this level!

good post. between fatigue, and combine opinions, takes go crazy this time of year.
People are just reaching for excuses on players that have been in the top 10 for a loooooong time to try and change things up.

Happens every year.

More on McMillan:

Reel Analytics GPS Speed: 20mph

Open-target rate against single coverage this year compared to other top WR prospects:

Egbuka: 75.7%
Golden: 62.5%
McMillan: 62%
Hunter: 61.4%
Burden: 60%

I really took a hard look at our roster and think cornerback is the number 1 need. I can live with the receivers we have as long as CeeDee is healthy. The front seven is a least average. Running backs can be found later in the draft. The offensive line is young and developing. I just can’t go with Bland, Carson, and Elam. We would get torched. I think corner is the pick at 12 and Johnson is the guy I think they would take.

If we go something like Johnson and 1T in the 2nd wouldn’t be mad. Need a WR2 big time but can’t fix it all.

If they do not sign another fa Wr, I cannot leave the 1st two rounds without a receiver. This is a must have for me.

I hear ya just thinking realistically. We won’t be adding a needle mover via FA / trade and have needs everywhere.

WR my #1 need, followed by DT/RB. LB/CB/OL/S are secondary needs as I see it.
We're in a tough spot, unfortunately. You could make an argument for any of WR/RB/CB/DT/LB/DE as a 'top' need.

Realistically, I'd say the team will prioritize WR, CB, and DE on day 1 and 2. These are the money positions and if you can get an impact player at those three spots for 4-5 years on a rookie deal, you've done alright. I think they will also--by negligence or necessity--talk themselves into Mazi as the starting DT alongside Osa. Unfortunately, with the way they've built this team, they're going to have to make a sacrifice somewhere.

RB is probably the biggest need but you play the cards you're given, and that position can arguably be filled at just about any point in the draft.

Agree, those are the 3 that appear to be the priority

We need to build and prepare this online for post-Dak. The worst thing you can do is have a rookie quarterback with a poor offensive line.

How much easier do you think the Eagles OLine made things for Hurts
Everything starts in the trenches. For a rookie QB, or a seasoned vet with less mobility.
