Corner IS our biggest need-we don't exactly have to draft a stud, but nonetheless the best one on the board when it's our turn at #22, we need to grab the heck out of it.

I wouldnt unless its the best player on their draft board, and its quite possible it wouldnt be

and saying CB is the biggest need is definitely arguable..some could easily argue that WR or even RB is a bigger need

you dont spend two first rd picks on the same position because you need "depth" on the team...Newman is a franchise CB, he's gonna be here and play at a high level for years to come...Henry might be in his last yr here or certainly his last ry as a starting CB, but you still dont HAVE to draft a CB in round one...

David

FWIW-Reid has used 90% of his first round picks on linemen(when other areas really need to be addressed). *shrugs* it ended up working out well for his team. Don't know how, but it did.

Really-Newman/Henry ARE over 30, and we need to draft a youngster and groom the guy in '08.

Will you still be proud when we lose in the first round of the playoffs again? you say we are close.close to what? we have not won a playoff game in 10 years. Jerry just blew a chance to put this team over the top. the draft alone wont do it,but go ahead and fool yourself if you want too.

When was that?

I agree-but Williams and Reeves getting burned by late 2nd day rookies down the stretch, whether it was the Eagles Brent Celek, the Giants Steve Smith, or the Skins scrub receivers has made me lose sleep every night since we lost that playoff game.

Heck-the injuries to Owens and Glenn which hambered their abilities against Giants 3 was nothing compared to members of our secondary getting burned by a bunch of scrubs.

Dude-we need DEPTH at this position. Sure-finding backups at corner is easier said than done, but nonetheless, Newman/Henry are over 30 and had their share of injuries last year. The LAST thing we need is some Jacques Reeves on this team.

This talk of depth at CB vexes me.

Do you really expect a 3rd CB...or 4th CB to come in for Newman and have our defense not skip a beat?

It won't happen.

There aren't many teams at all that can lose their number one CB and not feel the pinch.

For that matter, there's not too many positions period where that happens.

I'm all for taking a CB. I think we need to improve the position. Newman is a stud....Henry? I like Henry, but I think we can do better...plus, he's hard to count on due to his injury problems.

But I think it's folly to draft two CBs in the first because we need depth.

Do we ignore WR? What if MBIII's negotiations get ugly?...what then do we do at RB?

No....draft a CB early...in the first round if one's available....then wait until round three or four to take another...if a good one's available.

Did it really work for Reid?

Did they win a Super Bowl drafting one position?

Maybe if they would've taken a WR somewhere they would've had enough ammo at WR to win something.

with the raiders signing walker they will not draft mcfadden. so if you're not on the mcfadden to Dallas bandwagon don't be so proud of jerry just yet. this move just made the thought of us trading with oakland to get mcfadden that much more realistic.

Why wouldn't the Raiders draft McFadden?

Whoever the Raiders take in the first is still going to command the money which corresponds with that pick. So why not McFadden?

Unless you're assuming that the Walker signing means that the Raiders will drop down in the draft. But I think the Raiders have the cap space to sign a top rookie.

Knowing how close we are he could of reverted back to his old self and risked a lot in the process. Instead he intelligently signs Zach to a great deal and will rely on the draft for the rest.

Shows he has learned a lot and he is the best owner in football.

Go Boys!

I dont know if or how anyone could be ranked the best owner in football.

I concur with the rest. Between staying out of this years market and being shrewd and smart in last years, I am really happy with the front office.

Hopefully they will hit a few out of the park on april 26-27

If we got McFadden I'd be really happy...he's the best player in the draft and would add a dimension to the offense that we just dont have now...we'd have the best pair of RB's in the league, easily

I wouldnt sell the farm to move up and get him, but if he falls to the 6-7 range and we dont have to give up any significant starters from our team, I'm all for it and think it'd be a great move...its very possible we could move up to the 6-7-8 range and give up nothing more than the two firsts+a third perhaps

David

That's the farm!

thought I was the only one that noticed that.

nothing in this free agency could have put us or anyone else over the top, imo.

How will overspending for marginal players put us "over the top"?

There was one FA that I felt would put us over the top, but we really had no chance....Randy Moss.

Right now, we have the most talented roster in the NFC. We're still very, very young.

Agree that we are the most talented, but we really arent THAT young. Our defensive front 7, QB, and RB is...other than that we are about average. We are old at WR and our secondary are all near 30.

Having said that, most of these guys (especially the secondary) are in their prime. If we don't get that SB in the next year or two, its going to be difficult.

i love how people have no idea what value things are and just make up numbers. 22 and 28 are valued by the old draft value chart at 7. Before you go spouting about how its outdated because of the contracts the top rookies are making just keep in mind that devalues the higher picks so if anything the two picks are worth more.

That being said i would want to keep our two firsts and maybe trade 61 to move up around 13. Mendenhall, the top WR, and one of McKelvin, Jenkins and DRC will be there.

If/When Henry gets hurt this year, maybe Ball can start for him.

Jerry dropped the ball on Reeves.

I don't like our new 35 year-old ILB. He's done.

If Bill didn't want him, that should tell you something right there....

So you don't see dallas drafting any CBs this year? Just going with what they have.

Jerry didn't "drop the ball". Its hard to make a mistake in letting something go like you suggest when they helped pack his bags for him. No ball was dropped. That ball was tied to an anchor and thrown overboard.

And quit saying "dropped the ball" until yours have. Man up and answer a few of those questions people have asked you to respond to.

Heres a start for you.

My first choice is to do whatever's neccessary to get Dmac, within reason that is.

Second choice = best corner & wide receiver this draft has to offer.

Pray that Stanback or Miles Austin has a huge coming out party, don't expect too much from the rookies.

I think staying where they are at and picking the best players available at CB, RB and WR with the 1st 3 picks is the best way to go. I'd look CB 1st and hopefully Rogers-Cromartie will be available. Only way I don't go CB 1st pick is if Stewart or Mendenhall are available and I might just limit that to stewart.

Taking on the contract of a top 10 pick and losing other picks in the process just doesn't appeal to me. Im not an advocate of the "too much money in one spot" theory because I think the money has to be spent anyway, why not spend it on the weakest spot. However, paying out millions guaranteed for DMC and resigning Barber might be a little much even for me.

Stand still and pick Jerry. If some idiot team like the Raiders wants back into the 1st round, let em overpay for that pick. Keep building the team and don't sacrifice multiple picks for 1 guy.
