Anybody that picks the Commanders to finish first can't be taken seriously.

If I thought Wilbon really believed this, I would be fine with it. But he doesn't believe this. He hopes this. How unprofessional.

Pretty much, but it's no more unprofessional than a lot of people in the media. If you're a real sports' fan, it's hard not to have biases.

Ill say this the fact he picked the gmen at 500 record
at least indicates he's done some homework. But that Commander record is clearly a homer pick

I disagree. A true professional can have allegiances yet speak the truth about the talent level and what is likely to happen in a given season. Wilbon obviously did not do this. He just picked the team he likes the most to win the division, the team he hates the most to be in last place, and the other two to be in the middle. Unprofessional.

Awesome sig, though, Heel.

I can understand the pick about the cowboys but not the pick about the Commanders. The Cowboys are going to have to prove everyone wrong because of last year's December Collapse.

Wilbon is a Chicago guy. He has no allegiance to the Commanders and often takes pleasure in making fun of them, and he detests Snyder. His opinion may be off base, but I wouldn't put it down to bias.

Yeah he shows his homerism for the Bears all the time. I didn't understand his love for Mcnabb when I first started watching PTI until I found out he and Mcnabb were from Chicago.

I don't think Wilbon was being a "homer" at all. As others have pointed out he is a Bears fan who works in Washington.

To your statement, I don't believe the 'Skins are a Super Bowl contender by any means but I also don't see them as a terrible squad either. They have a top 5 defense, a strong running game, a Pro Bowl TE, a deep threat at WR and a QB who doesn't make mistakes. That is a recipe for a team that can stay in games with nearly anyone. My disdain for them won't allow me to openly admit that to an over-the-top 'Skins homer in my native Washington, DC but as a knowledgeable football fan I can admit a rivals strengths.

The strengths of the 'Skins and Cowboys are pretty similar if you think about it. The writers that cover the Cowboys believe their strengths are the RB's, TE's and the defense. Sounds like the 'Skins too.

That said, I don't see them finishing in 1st place but it isn't unreasonable to see a scenario where they are in the playoff hunt and in the thick of things in the NFC East.

How is that different from last year, though?

I don't think they'll be awful, either, though they could be with a couple O-line injuries and a QB controversy. Sure, they could win the division if everything goes right for them and lots of things go wrong with their competition. But you can say that about tons of teams in the league.

When Analyzing the Defenses versus one another in the NFC East I think the Skins had the best Defense but their offense was just crappy.

I wouldn't care if someone picked us to go 1-15 if they had a viable reason but you no longer get a well reasoned opinion you just get shock jock stuff. All these mediots just don't realize that after the fans heard this crap for awhile they soon become irrelevant.

Maybe but he hates the Cowboys like a Commanders fan. I've been watching PTI for many years now and, aside from the regular shots he takes at Dallas whenever there is Cowboys Story, he has actually admitted his disdain for our organization a few times during the broadcasts.

The skins Defense is going to be really GOOD IF Orakpo gets 8-10 sacks.
IF the DBs get their heads out of their rear ends.
IF the D line inside can hold up.
They have a lot more ifs on their D then we have.

Offensively they are not in the same league.

SO yes it was either homerism or stupidity.

I think the additions of Haynesworth and Orakpo should make our defense better and hopefully lead to more pressure on the QB and consequently INTs. You're right though in that our biggest weakness last year was offensive line and if anything our depth there got worse. I think we're headed for another quick start then flame out unless one of three things happens: Jim Zorn gets a lot better, Jason Campbell gets a lot better, or we get very lucky on the health front with our offensive line.

With parity in the League, any team can compete and make a run as long as they can run the ball, defend well, limit their mistakes (penalties and turnovers) and are capable of making you pay via a deep threat. My point is, just because we hate the 'Skins doesn't mean we should rule out the fact that it is possible for them to be good this season (9-7 or 10-6). The 'Skins were in the playoff hunt last season and it isn't farfetched to see them in the hunt again.

You're right though CL, a lot will have to go right for them to accomplish that feat. But, who would've thought the Cardinals would've been minutes away from being Super Bowl champs for the '08 season before it started?
