Pump the breaks

I learned a long time ago to never pump the brakes on good times.
We dont know how many more times we will get to ride the ride so what sense does it make letting the fear of a low mess with the thrill of a high?

Its just football.
Well said. This isn't your retirement account. This is Cowboys football. It's just a game. Celebrate every win and acknowledge every loss.

I note Dak hit 64% of his passes. Once again, mid-60's. The comments about Dak being an inaccurate quarterback aren't backed up by the numbers. And yes, I know there are some throws that he missed that in other games may be critical failures. But that's a comment for specific throws and games, comments that he's overall an "inaccurate" quarterback ring hollow...

... yes it was a win. Yes the defense played great last night. D-line, LB'ers and secondary. They shut down OBJ, Shepherd and Barkley as a RB BUT remember the NY Giant O-line (even with the big $ on Solder) and the Hernandez draft pick is below average. They aren't very good, and neither is the Carolina O-line. And it's ELI, years removed from the discussion of whether he is elite or not. I keep thanking Giant management for NOT drafting a QB high.

Does this D have potential? Yes big. If we can keep Gregory sober and healthy and if Irving can stay off twitter and calling attention to himself. Doomsday potential? No but potential to be a 90's type D, yes. I want to see what they do against a top O-line and QB. In other words what do they do against the Eagles. We don't exactly know what we have yet but there seems to be 30 teams who are still figuring it out. There are the same number of 0-2 teams as there are 2-0. So far the majority sit at 1-1. And who looks like the best team in the NFL? The Chiefs? The Yucaneers? You kidding me!

Just sayin, tap the breaks on the D a bit. Be excited for potential not yet attained at this point. The potential is there. It's gonna have to be if we score 20 points or fewer on average.

What do you guys thing of the mind set switch, relying on defense over offense because that looks like reality this year.
Mind set change? It isn’t like it was a mind set change...it is what it is..... our offense 30th and defense is currently 4th. As parcellls would say, you are what you are.

Biggest red flag from game 1 for me was the LB corps. For the Cowboys to have any chance this season, they don't have to be dominant but they at least have to be reliably solid. They looked a mess in game 1, but they certainly looked solid last night.

The speed with which they consistently closed on the ball was impressive.
I dont think Vanderbeek or whatever his name is is as far away from being productive as we were suspecting

In my best John McEnroe voice....if you are young, google him..lol, You can NOT be serious?
When90% of your passes are 7yards or less in the uir,you better be in them 60s, but to say he is accurate is. A joke.

He threw for 160 yards. His passing was effective LAST NIGHT. But throwing for high completion percentage does not tell the whole story just like passing for huge yards. What I see is this offense is built around the short game. In other words runs and short passes. When this offense becomes ineffective is if it needs to make up chunk yards to stay ahead of the chains. If its 3rd and 7 or longer this offense looks out of sorts, like they do not know what to do. I know all teams struggle making 3rd and long but this team looks like it does not even have play in the book that addresses it.

Suuuuuuuuuuuper Bowl baby!

In a year when I think we will be lucky to have a winning record...I REFUSE to pump the breaks after a win. I am going to enjoy them when we get them.

True, but I was only commenting on his accuracy, not yards or scoring, etc. The short passing game is how the offense is set up, if you're wanting 300 yard/3 td passing games, you're going to be sorely disappointed...

I see QBs miss wide open receivers in every game. Brady and Stafford were overthrowing like crazy yesterday, but they are constantly praised around here. (Yes I just compared Dak to other NFL QBs). Dak needs to improve and missing a wide open Suave could've bit us in the arse. But again, all QBs miss every game. Dak is under a ridiculous microscope, but if he develops rapport with these receivers and the Oline learns how to block again, he'll be just fine.

It's game 2, fella's, a lot of teams "look" super powered and mistakenly chosen to go all the way. I look for the bucs to come back to reality, the eagles showed who they truly are, and our cowboys CAN match up with them, no matter who the QB is. Hell the Pats got owned yesterday, now you want to talk about a legit team, it just may be the Jags, BUT never forget who their QB is....Let's just all carry horseshoes and rabbits feet in our pockets that the vanilla queen doesn't throw a wrench in a scheme that kept NY off balance most of the night.

I think the offense just needs more dynamic playcalling.

Linehan gave us small samples of a dynamic offense last night and it was working.

Basic Cowboy football was not.

I remember when this board made fun of QBs like Brunell when he completed some stupid insane number of passes but only averaged 5 yards per completion. In the NFL most defenses will let the underneath stuff be open because there will be people near there to make the tackle. The purpose of NFL defense is limit scoring, and stop big plays. If I was DC I would let Dak throw 7 yard plays, why because an offense built like that is limited and it requires perfect execution to drive the field to score. Throw in a penalty here and there and the offense goes off the rails

I am quite happy with our defense, and we still get a couple more pieces added in a few weeks. This defense should be dominate as the season rolls on.

The offense started nice and hot, I'll give the coaching staff some credit there. The play calling was a nice mix, and bomb was a great call. But, it seemed the offense slipped back to the same old mediocrity for the next 2 quarters. The offense still needs a lot of work, but last night was much better.

This team is somewhere in between Super Bowl bound and "with the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft..."
