You misinterpreted what I wrote. I never said nor implied that special teams isn't a very important aspect of football. What I said was that punt and kick return TDs show almost no correlation with winning football games.
You point to Leon Washington's punt return against the Steelers. It set the Jets up to make a game winning field goal. What would have happened if he would have returned it for a TD? No one can say but if I was a Jets fan, I'd much rather have my kicker attempting an almost chip shot to win the game than have the Steelers offense on the field with time left and a chance to tie.
This week the Dolphins had a punt return for a TD. The Dolphins lost. Heck, the week before that, Cribbs returned a kick for the Browns against the Steelers. The Browns lost.
I'm not saying that I wouldn't want a return TD. What I am saying is that return TDs in and of themselves are not an indicator of success.
