So I was watching the early round of games on Sunday, heard one loud *pop*, and no more TV. Luckily, I had a spare in the attic (32") to pull down and get through the Cowboys game with it.

But now I'm needing to buy a new TV. And I was wondering if you guys had a preference. I'm open to any brand, but I'd like to keep it 50"+ and <$1,000!

that pays for most LCD tvs other than some 4k tvs.
there is a 43" OLED for a bit more than $700, but nothing else below $1k that i saw recently.

I have a Sony Bravia 55" 4k Android Smart TV and have been very happy with it. (absolutely beautiful picture) Early on I had a few issues with Netflix restarting if it had been running before (like 24 hours later) That was early on and I would think has been fixed by now (I mostly use my Roku anyhow)

That said, I never had any issues with the TV itself and it is nice to be able to control it by voice casting via my Google Home. (ie, tell the Google home to play a show on the TV)

You can also use it to play music (or even TV shows / news) with the screen off.

If you can hold on, there will be lots of sales in the next month or so. Frankly today on TVs its like it was with VCRs back in the mid to late 80's. There is VERY little quality difference in the major brands because so many are made by just a few companies; and the only difference is the logo. So decide what you want in your TV and shop around.

Personally I would get a decent name brand that might have the most apps (for online viewing).

However don't go too cheap and from what I have heard I would stay away from Element...had some people at work think they were getting a killer deal on them last year and they turned out to be pretty crappy TVs...many have had troubles with the sound and some with the picture.

i tried sony a few years ago and took it back immediately. it's inability to stream from my pc and the entire streaming built in software was horrible. picture, amazing. play well with others, sucked. i got the LG OLED 55" and love it. only 1080 but w/OLED it's so very clear. but at $2500 i hope i'm not going it again any time soon. and that was on sale from $3900 cause the guys wife made him bring it back. :)

Yeah, I used to be Samsung all the time, but in either the 2014 or was it 2015 year, they lowered the quality of the components they used and the quality of the TVs went way down. At that time, Sony was one of the best 4k TVs and I got $350 off so I snatched it up and I've been very happy since and streaming to it has never been a problem, but that's because it has built-in Chromecast and 5Ghz WiFi built-in.

That is a good TV, have one myself but it is in our storage in SF. I am not sure if under 1K or not though, pretty close if I remember correctly.

If you want to wait until black friday(I would and get a bigger tube ), go get a 40" from Walmart for under $200 for now. It can be your back-up later :D

Trying to find a good tv at this point is hard. Panasonic made the best tv's but they stopped the plasma's and there led's are not available in the US. they are in canada though.

in the past year I bought my son a samsung 40 inch for his room and a tcl roku tv for my bedroom because it was 249. The tcl colors are awful and no matter how much tweaking I can not get it accurate. Its in the bedroom and the roku is nice but it really is a 250 dollar tv, plus I have two pixels out already.

The samsung is ok. Its the intro model 4k. The motion issues are really annoying. My son likes it but i can't even look at the tv.

I have a panasonic 40 inch led I paid 300 bucks on a closeout for a couple of years ago. After adjusting the colors its almost as good as my plasma. Panasonic just makes better tv's.

The samsung, vizio, lg all look the same to me unless you are spending around 2k.

I would just get the best you can afford that fits the room you are in. Some are excellent in dark rooms and some are in rooms with a lot of light.

At this point you might wait for a Holiday sale but if you don't prices are still pretty good you should be able to get a quality TV for under 1000.
Samsung and Sony have some nice 4k models in the 50-60 inch range.
A lot of people like Vizio but they are a step down.
Just be sure it has HDR.

My advice is narrow your choice to 3 or 4 TV's and wait a month until Black Friday sales hit.

Voice casting?

I yell at my Google Home all the time, but it's just like yelling at my kids -- they don't understand my requests.

Are there some easy online instructions for that stuff?

How to use Google Home to Cast Netflix on a Google Chromecast enabled TV

I use my Amazon Echos and Google Homes to do lots of stuff in my house. (music, tv, lights, shopping lists, timers, listen to news updates, get sports scores, find out if a store / restaurant is currently open, translates English to different languages when I have guest that don't speak English, etc) They are basically the Star Trek Computer of today.
