Purchasing New TV

Yeah, I used to be Samsung all the time, but in either the 2014 or was it 2015 year, they lowered the quality of the components they used and the quality of the TVs went way down. At that time, Sony was one of the best 4k TVs and I got $350 off so I snatched it up and I've been very happy since and streaming to it has never been a problem, but that's because it has built-in Chromecast and 5Ghz WiFi built-in.
the one i got a few years ago didn't allow for much at all. the sony forums were all up in arms at the lack of "media" capabilities overall. if they've improved that i'll look at sony again next time around. been very happy with my LG however.

Go to Best Buy and look at all screens ; ask salesman to put different programs on. 1 sports, 1 sci fi type movie, and then a TV show. That will pretty much show you all you are ever likely to watch and you can then judge what is best.

Judging in a big retail store is not a good way to judge. The settings and lighting are going to be all over the place.

Well guess what? Where else can you compare multiple tvs from different manufacturers side by side?
Answer me that.

They are THUS under the same restrictions and such you describe.

Good point there! Might make the mini TV work for a while haha
I bought a 65" Samsung smart TV for $625 last year on black friday weekend. Ordered it at Walmart, didn't even have to wait in line. Shipped to store for free. I didn't even need one too good to pass up. lol

It may be the only place to compare them side by side, but that comparison doesn't hold much value. What you see in the store on the floor is not going to be what you see at home in your living room. Reviews from trusted sources who have calibrated and tested the sets is probably the best thing to go by.

You guys may have convinced me.. I'll probably make due with this prehistoric TV for another 5 weeks, and then get a great TV at a great discount on Black Friday!

Look around and try to find anywhere from 2-5 TVs that you think you would consider buying. Rank them if you want.

Wait until black friday or cyber monday and see if any of those TVs you liked are on sale and if not if any of the ones on sale are comparable.

Appreciate it. I'll probably go the Cyber Monday route. Anything to avoid those BF crowds

ask him to take it out of demo mode and look at channels / programs you're likely to watch on a normal basis. the demos are designed to highlight the tv's strengths which may or may not be good for you and what you watch every day.

on bestbuy.com - find your location and look in their "clearance" section. they can have some gems in there they just want out of the store. it's how i got my $3900 LG OLED for $2500.
https://www.oled-info.com/lg-55ec9300

that's my tv.

Niiice! I'm getting entirely too tempted to shell out the extra $$ for the OLED. Is the difference worth it?
it will have a MUCH higher contract and the blacks are going to be PITCH BLACK which does help. my tv is *only* 1080 but everything thinks it's 4k.

People should avoid plasma TVs. They give off a lot of excess RF noise which interferes with other stuff and people's stuff which makes your neighbors hate your guts and want to kill you over and over again with a blunt object.
