I agree with your points. I definitely agree with we have a GM issue. That’s our biggest problem. The argument that we can massage the cap is true but when the bill is due it hurts. The point about when Dak made 1 million it didn’t matter is not exactly correct because we were paying the bill from Romo. So Dak was on a rookie deal Romo’s dead money was still being dealt with. When Dak retires we’re going to pay a hefty price for massaging the cap. So the next rookie QB will be cost 1 million of his money and 15-20 million (I’m just guessing here, I don’t know the actual number) of Dak’s dead money. So the QB position money will be high even with a rookie QB. That’s the GM’s fault, not Dak’s.
That’s not why I am mad about Dak’s contract tho. My problem with Dak’s contract as far as Dak goes is when he said he has to reset the market for the QB brotherhood. Call me “old fashioned” or “hater” or “ignorant” but I have a problem with my QB announcing he wants to set the QB market so other players on other teams will benefit. If Dak is going to be concerned about anyone but himself in contract negotiations, I have a major problem with the players he’s concerned with do not wear the Star.
When I see Allen and Purdy signing deals that are less than Dak’s then it reignites my anger with that. When Purdy took less, 7 million less, it reopened that wound. If Dak didn’t say that whole brotherhood line I don’t think I would have reacted the same way when I saw Purdy take less.
