Quarterback Alex Tanney has cleared waivers and agreed to return to the Cowboys as a member of the practice squad, a source said.

The Cowboys enter the regular season with Tony Romo and Kyle Orton as the only quarterbacks on the active roster. The club had no intention of carrying three but was intrigued by the potential of Tanney, a 6-foot-4 rookie free agent out of Monmouth. The hope all along was that he would slip through waivers so the team could bring him back to the practice squad to see if he could develop.

Tanney completed 54.8 percent of his passes for 423 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions during the pre-season. He played the majority of the team’s pre-season finale against Houston and was under siege all evening behind a patchwork offensive line.

Good news. Hope we don't see him until next year during the preseason and he shows some progress.

Need help elsewhere before a QB. Maybe OL and DL?

With all do respect... Thinking like this is why some teams go 20 years between Franchise Qb's... I'm sure Green Bay had more needs than QB when they drafted Rodgers.. Heaven forbid we go 6-10 or worse... I'm looking for a QB in the first or second round...

then you will be frustrated. I predict the boys do not get serious about a QB pick for two more drafts. And even then they might not go early for one.

Favre was 35 and hinting at retirement at the end of every season when the Packers drafted Rodgers in 05. Green Bay did have more needs than QB in 05 but at #24 everyone they wanted was off the board and Rodgers fell in their lap. Romo is 33 and just signed a $108 million contract so drafting a QB next April in the first round wouldn't make a lot of sense. Now in the second round I would take a shot if there was a QB who warranted the pick. If the Cowboys go 6-10 this season Jerry needs to come to grips that he made a mistake at HC. If Romo was the reason for these 8-8 seasons coaches wouldn't have gotten fired, the HC wouldn't have gotten stripped of his play calling duties and Romo wouldn't have been resigned.

Vinnie2U said he would be looking for a QB if the Cowboys go 6-10 or worse you agree? If the Cowboys go 6-10 or worse this season what would be the reason Romo? Or could it possibly be that Garrett isn't the right man for the job? All you do is defend Romo and here I am defending him and you're still complaining about my posts. LOL

Since we drafted Troy Aikman in 1989, the only QB's Jerry has drafted:

1991 - Bill Musgrave in the 4th
2001 - Quincy Carter in the 2nd
2009 - Stephen McGee in the 4th

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Jerry to draft a QB high next year, or in the near future.

One QB we're lucky Jerry didn't draft was Brady Quinn who was sitting in our lap at #22 in 07. A lot of FANS were crying that he didn't take Quinn one claiming Jerry would rue the day that he passed on Brady Quinn.

Drafting a qb high, doesn't help your current franchise QB win a super bowl. It's a misallocation of draft picks.

The QB who takes over for Romo could be ideally placed to play as a rookie assuming we put together an offensive line now.

I'll probably get a warning for posting this but whatever. The mods have been extremely lenient when it comes to 5Stars posts, and it makes me wonder if its due to the fact that he's a "die hard Romo supporter." He's the only person I've seen get away with countless disrespectful posts time and time again without any consequence. I've seen many posters having been warned or have had their posts edited and have done far less. The only consistency I've noticed is that they tend to be the people the Rant Zone was originally created for.

If you say anything remotely negative about Romo, or if he gets the itch to think you are (as witnessed above), he quotes you as being "stupid" or something else disrespectful, OR, he just quotes you to troll the hell out of you. And he obviously hasn't been reprimanded in anyway because he continues to do it. Part of the reason I don't post much and just lurk/check for updates on the Cowboys.
