QB Brad Johnson is probably our new Holder

Don't know if this has been posted before nor do I remember if anyone previously raised this possibility.

No surprise, but Tony Romo has lost his grip on the holder position for kicks. Who might replace him?
The best bet is new backup quarterback Brad Johnson, an experienced holder.

Yes I know this is hindsight BUT....

Romo should have lost his holding job when he made his first start as our starting QB

No, this is not about the botched hold in Seattle. He was no longer backup QB and should have been ONLY QB'ing the time.

Bledsoe holding wouldn't have been any better and no one else on the roster had the experience.

Evidently the Cowboys did not feel confident enough in their other options to take care of the duty. I do agree that I don't want to see our starting QB holding on snaps but I do think they did what they felt was in the best interest of the team last season by having him do it.

LOL. Large! Great insight, Proph. Hopefully that will be the only time Grandpa sees the field.

So say two guys who are allegedly older than Brad Johnson and not in as good a shape as he is.

You guys might think I am crazy, but I wouldn't want Brad Johnson holding kicks, either. I think the best man for the job is Patrick Crayton. He has, arguably, the best catching hands on the team, he played QB in college, and he has the ability to make something happen with his feet should something go wrong. Revisit the travesty in Seattle last year; I don't think anyone on this board will disagree that Crayton can catch better than Romo, but if Crayton was in that position, I believe he would have gotten to the endzone or at least to the 1st down marker faster than Romo. And if he is in a situation were he has to throw the ball, he has enough passing experience to find the open man and make the throw. Brad Johnson, on the other hand, most likely isn't as good a catcher as Crayton, isn't as agile, mobile, or quick as Crayton. I think the obvious replacement for holder is Crayton, but that's just me.

As a QB I'm sure Johnson has good hands and unlike Crayton who may have been a QB a long time ago he is not one now and I would rather trust someone who can pick it up and deliver it under pressure. I will say 9 times out of 10 on a fumbled snap or bad snap your not going to get a play off anyways as the defensive unit is pretty much on top of you

I don't care.

You still claim to be older than a man you and your tag team partner slam repeatedly whilst you troll for reactions. It's old. It's tired.

Yet you both profess not to like the "abuse" you get in return. That's so curious.

That makes good sense to me, unless the practice time in learning and improving at holding would keep him away from developing as a receiver...

What gets me is they rag on Johnson and praise guys who have not done a damn thing. The whole Ricky (I can't make an NFL team) Ray and in the meantime Dallas has a QB in Johnson who helped get his team to the SB and win it as well as proving himself time and again. Dallas is not looking to groom some guy as a backup they want a guy who has been there before and that is what Johnson brings.

Yeah, I'm pretty sick of that too. The whole act is lame.

I've been saying this for a couple of years. I think fakes would be a real threat either running or throwing and he could even do an option, which against a ST unit would work.

Do you remember his one attempt at throwing a pass in the nfl? I would like to forget it personally. Maybe he can learn from Johnson and take over when he retires.
