Chris Simms says he has no problem with the Bucs as an organization, but can "never" forgive coach Jon Gruden for the way Gruden treated him during Simms' recovery from a severed spleen.

"The relationship between me and coach Gruden, it’s broken," Simms said. "And I don’t see any way it’s going to get better." Simms has hardly spoken to the media this offseason, but it's been obvious that he wants out. The Bucs are probably waiting to see if they can get something in a trade. Simms says there's a "50 percent chance" he'll report to mandatory minicamps in June.

For a late round pick I would jump all over it. Are you really satisfied with Brad Johnson as the backup? It's a no brainer if you ask me.

If my other choice is Chris Simms then yes I'm ok with Johnson.

I'd like to see some vet brought in to battle Johnson and Bartel until final cuts. You never know.

So Simms has leprosy. What is the beef against him? I just don't know the guy. But I'm all for bringing in a veteran in a like situation to challenge Johnson. I have zero confidence in Johnson altho I readily accept the fact I could be very wrong about him.

IMO he has shown nothing. At least Johnson has won something in the league.

To each their own

I'd rather see what Bartels has than bring in Simms.

They ought to bring him in and let him practice against the first team defense... if only to help Roy regain his confidence.:D

I dont even get lefties. Why dont they just be normal for Gods sake

As the old saying goes everyone in the world is born right handed and only the great ones can over come it. :D

If Simms can recover to his pre injury form, I would trade for him in a second. He would be a great back up for Romo and a QB with playoff experience.

I feel for the kid, he never got a fair shake of anything and has always taken way too much criticism ever since his college days.

His pre-injury form? Is that the 3 games in 2006 where he had a 54.7% completion percentage, 1 TD, 7 INTs and a 46.3 QB rating. Hopefully he is better than that by now.

It sure was not fair to Simms when he was given the starting job in college over an injured Major. ;)

Seriously, I don't get Gruden's grudge with Simms. Just cut the guy. No one is going to trade for him.

I do think having a left handed backup QB takes some time for the rest of the offense to adjust. Nothing impossible, but it is different than a right handed QB.

I will respectually pass on Chris Simms.

He'll be a Dolphin

I strongly doubt he will.

They already have Beck, McCown and have Henne waiting in the wings.

Plus, Coach Parcells didn't want him when he was in Dallas, why would he want him in Miami?

He will end up somewhere that needs a stronger third QB to press the backup.

Key word: HAS.

And in this case, HAS BEEN.

I'd rather see what Bartels has than bring in Simms.

So you would rather roll the dice on an undrafted player than simply open up competition? If Bartel is as good as some appear to believe, he should hold off any competition. I just do not like the idea that he's being handed the third/developmental role uncontested. I also don't think putting our confidence in a used up Johnson is that intelligent either.

An extended injury to Romo would basically require closing up shop for the year. Yes, that might be the case no matter who the backup is, but with these two, we wouldn't even have a fighting chance.

People complain about how bad Testeverde was? He was ten times more equipped to play than Johnson is at this stage. It is not even close.

I wouldn't mind bringing in Simms as a free agent but not in a trade.

Let him compete with Johnson and Bartel and see who wins out for the backup spot.

Johnson - smart guy, been around a LONG Time, can't throw 20 yards anymore

Bartel - virtually unknown, has potential, strong arm, but does he have it between the ears

Simms - smart guy, left-handed (makes it difficult to plan for one guy), good movement in the pocket, good arm

Favorite if all three were here, would say Bartel only since Garrett has worked with him alot.

Don't see that Simms brings anything more to the team then Brad Johnson. As for Johnson not being able to throw 20 yards, heck Garrett will revamp his scheme and we'll go to a West Coach offense which relies on short passes & WRs picking up big yardage--something TO very used to.
