Why should there not be a competition for the starting QB job right now??
If Tony fell in the shower, and hurt his throwing arm, and couldnt play for 10 weeks, how many
would be ok with Dak starting?
How many would say no sit dak let him learn, and bring in a vet??

I think Dak is winning the QB competition right now, but it seems even if he does many fans
would still want Tony to start.

Lets look at both.
Dak:
158.3 passer rating Miami game
Is young , and healthy, and I think bigger than tony ??
Much more mobile, and great at running with the ball, he gets loose, he can run 60
yards for a td, and tony could not do that in 2006.
Has good arm, can make all the throws, and has been very accurate.
Has only been sacked once, I think ?
Is reading the field good, and finding receivers open, always looking down field.
Lacks experience and playing time in NFL. Never been in a playoff game.
_________
Tony
107.5 passer rating Miami game
Is old, has bad back, cant run, and not sure if he can still do his spin move, didnt seem
to use that last year.
Has more experience, but that hasnt got him past the div round in his whole career.
Can make all the throws also, but hasnt been as good as Dak has been.
Knows the Dallas offense better than anyone, or should, and has seen many defenses.
Is a legend , and probably best known QB in the world.
Has not had much success in playoffs.
________
Tony will have to rely on his passing, and the running backs, and his limited scrambling ability,
and his experience.
Dak can not only scramble and move in pocket quicker than tony, but can take off and run,
like the 25 yard td run in Miami game.
That is the main thing that to me makes Dak the better QB, and not just Tony, but better than any other
QB in the league, even R. Wilson.
That is a huge advantage, to be able to run like that. Kapernick could do it, but maybe not as good, and he lacked other quality's that Dak has.
________
So if it were me I would go with Dak as starter and have Romo back him up, and see how it goes.
And Preseason isnt over yet, so the competition is still ongoing, So I might change my mind.

I am not a Romo hater, and if Dak did get the starting job I would feel bad for Romo, but hey
he has 100 mil so wont feel too bad for him!
And we would have the best bkup QB in the NFL !

But really if Dak looks as good in Seattle game, it is crazy not to make him the starter.
Best player up, the one that gives you best chance to win, and if it doesnt work out,
Romo is on the sidelines healthy and ready to play!
Or you can play the old vet who is a legend, and hero , and a great guy.
And dont get me wrong, Tony is still a good qb, one of the best, I just think Dak is on another level
and is young and can run, which again is a huge weapon tony has never really had, and most QB's
cant run very good.
____
I also think many players, are thinking Dak should start too. They seem to play better for him
than Romo.

Dak could very well be the best QB in the NFL, and people are saying he needs to sit few years and learn?
And I admit, he could be just incredibly lucky, and a fluke and these 2 pre season games are meaningless.
But I dont think so, and we will see what happens in next 2 games and go from there.

Also I dont think Jerry or JG have the kahunas to start Dak over Romo, no matter how good Dak looks.
And it would be hard to do, I would do it, but I would not like doing it.
But if you want to win play your best players.

Ok, I am done now Tell me how dumb I am !

You are either trying to troll us or you really are that dumb.

Romo is a top 5 qb when healthy. Lol if dak continues to improves he won't be a threat for atleast 2 years

Dak could be and we all hope will be great in two to four years.

It's pre season and he has yet to face a game plan, much less one that's designed to stop him.

We fans just need to back away from ourselves.

I think it makes perfect sense to replace a veteran who was in the running for NFL MVP two years ago with a fourth-round rookie has shined in two whole preseason games.

I think we should also play Darius Jackson over Ezekiel Elliott because Elliott has been hurt this preseason and he could get hurt again.

Exactly. Dak's window isn't open yet unless something catastrophic happens to Tony. Two to four years sounds accurate as far as when the Dak era might begin.

The Cowboys would be best served if Romo qbs the club for two more years, and in his third year Dak starts. This will give him time to get acclimated and allow him time to study different defenses. If we really want the DAk experiment to work, don't rush it. Romo will have plenty of games missed during that period for Dak to get live action reps. So to answer the OP- week 1, start Romo.

We have a good situation right now with the Qbs and rbs, why ruin it? Let's sit back, take deep breath, and enjoy. We can wring our hands over the DE situation instead.

On a final note, starting right now if we add about 3 defensive key FAs like Elway did in free agency, we have a chance to end Romos career with a super bowl. Comeon FO, spend that loot and get the D some REAL help.

I'm willing to give Romo one more season before I start looking at Dak to possibly replace him. People are quick to say it's ridiculous to suggest Dak over Romo, but Romo really didn't look good at all last season before the injury.

I think we'll be able to tell this season if Romo has regressed or not. I hope he does stay healthy all season because I really want to see If Romo still has the arm strength and the mobility to get it done.
