QB Hits, according to profootballfocus.com. I have to presume that this statistic excludes sacks, since some players have more sacks than QB hits.

3-4 OLBs:

Code:
Name QB Ht
Anthony Spencer 26
DeMarcus Ware 16
Aaron Kampman 12
James Harrison 12
Tamba Hali 11
Lamarr Woodley 11
Manny Lawson 9
Clay Matthews 9
Shaun Phillips 8
Clark Haggans 7
Kamerion Wimbley	7
Parys Haralson 7
Tully Banta-Cain	7
David Bowens 6
Elvis Dumervil 6
Larry English 6
Joey Porter 5
Robert Ayers 5
Jason Taylor 4
Shawne Merriman	4

4-3 DEs

Code:
Name QB Ht
Ray Edwards 22
Trent Cole 20
Andre Carter 16
Mario Williams 16
Jared Allen 14
Darryl Tapp 14
Kyle Vanden Bosch	14
Mathias Kiwanuka	13
Osi Umenyiora 13
Antonio D. Smith	13
Will Smith 13
Alex Brown 12
Dwight Freeney 12
Jacob Ford 12
Leonard Little 11
Robert Mathis 11
John Abraham 10
Stylez G. White 10
Patrick Kerney 10
Aaron Schobel 9
Jimmy Wilkerson 9
Chris Long 9

Just nice to see the statistics confirm what many thought -- i.e., that he was getting to the QB a lot early in the season, he just wasn't getting there quite soon enough to get the sack.

Wow 54 pressures for Ware? Thats impressive. Especially considering Harrison is 2nd among OLB's, 23 pressures behind Ware :laugh2:.

No doubt a cool thread. This adds a lot of perspective of just how good our line is playing.

Are QB pressures an official league statistic or one of those team statistics? I just ask because there would seem to be a fair bit of subjectivity to it. I also find it hard to believe Ware is that far ahead of Spencer in pressures even though Spencer has more hits.

Interesting that Orakpo doesn't appear on either list.
He has 9 hits and 15 pressures. I guess he should have been on the 4-3 DE QB hits list. Just copied down a good ways to get a critical mass of players on the list. I may have inadvertently cut the list off just before him.

Profootballfocus.com tallies its own statistics and none of them are "official." They're certainly to be taken with a grain of salt, but by and large they appear to be reasonably accurate.

I agree. There has to be a bit of discretion used when counting something as a pressure. I wonder who rules on what is a pressure and what is not.

Which is why it was insane to pile on Spencer. Anyone could tell he was playing well.

I would also attribute our good deep pass coverage to this and cut Hamlin and sign Nick Collins

Interesting how? He's playing well for a rookie.

Interesting thread. I thought Spencer seemed close a lot, but I dismissed it because he never got any sacks. I figured sacks were a pretty good indicator of pressure, but I guess I was wrong. Good to see he is being productive.

They dont always tell the whole story.

Does anyone really think James Harrison is close to Ware?

The media thought he was better last year. Of course the Media frequently is dead wrong on a lot of things.

And watch like Dumerveil finish ahead of him this year. I like Dumerveil but cmon.

Im cool w/ Revis or Woodson winning it, but Im not seeing Ware even mentioned.

Last year the excuse was the overall D wasnt good enough, what about this year?

pressures is a very subjective stat. No two people are going to come up with the same total. BUT by and large they are a indicator. To me a pressure is when a rusher forces the QB to move or throw the ball early-of course that is also subjective since you do not KNOW that the pressure caused the ball to be thrown early a lot of the time.

Question:

I noticed how Spencer has more QB hits that pressures. How is that?

How can a defensive player hit someone without pressuring him?

I do not recall a vast amount of late hit penalties on Spencer.

Subjective? ....... you bet!

You can easily have a pressure without a hit and a hit without a pressure.
