Basically.

Why do it before releasing Romo? It's not like there's a lineup for McCown of all people

Likely because Jerry has no intention of trading Romo and doesn't care.

Wasted opportunity, if true
Considering how many visits we had last season, and no signings to come from it.....Im not to worried yet.

yes but why not wait till the 10th to talk to josh?

Cause McClay wanted him last year and they do not want to risk not getting him locked up early this year. The
most likely outcomes on Tony demands it. Backup Insurance for your QB in the NFL is a good thing as we found
out in 2015.

Man some team will get an elite QB for nothing in the next weeks. I can't believe we got not nothing for Romo.

McCown is much better than Kellen or Sanchez.
Absolutely. Moore has shown nothing that inspires confidence (please dont bring up a losing 400yd effort in a meaningless game) and Sanchez is better served as Dak's life coach! McCown has been productive on some bad teams & he should be able to "drive the bus" if needed. If it was feasible I'd rather keep #9 since no team is willing to trade for his $14mil contract. Love the hate the F/O is getting but last I checked it takes two teams to pull off a trade... IJS

I really don't know much about Moore. He probably isn't the answer as a long term replacement should Dak get injured or fails. McCown doesn't really inspire too much either.
I feel the same way. I think every team is in the same boat. If your starting QB gets injured, You're probably not going to win a lot of games.

Well Moore might be a noodle arm but he did throw for 400 yards in a game. Is he really all that worse then McCown? I don't think he is. That's just me

The famous Commander game where all of the defensive backs were injured. Whoopie.

McCown's a solid backup. I'm OK with this.

But I'm still not OK with releasing Romo and signing McCown forces our hand
I'm with you. We can still get a draft pick for Romo. Don't release him yet! Play hard ball....

You need to adjust your thinking. Tony is a smallish, aging, brittle 37yr. old QB who can't stay healthy without a massively good
OL. He now has to have a team tailored for him to be successful. Most teams aren't and the ones that have good teams don't
want to risk a season on an over-the-hill QB who might not last 3 games. This isn't Madden and teams today want youth.

Yes, for the next 10 days lots of "Weeping and Gnashing of teeth".

More like the rightful and justified hammering and bashing of a GM who couldn't manage to get anything in exchange for the toughest position to fill in all of sports.

If Jerry Jones quickly cuts Romo and gets nothing for this team, all criticism is deserved, and neither he, nor any other spin doctor can say otherwise.

Yeah people seem to have some unrealistic value attached to Romo.

I am going to miss him but 3 out of the last 4 games he was on the field, he left with a serious injury. He hasn't played in two years and hasn't played 16 games since 2012. If his contract was a little less steep, we could maybe snatch a 3rd but with his contract, nobody wants to touch him.

Even the team that signs him knows they have a 2 year bandaid at best...worse case scenario is you have 2 games and another injury leading to retirement. Who wants to pay 14 million and a draft pick for those odds?

Why wouldn't Houston?

Probably not unless it's a team like Jacksonville and the "DoRight" rule Jerry mentions will preclude that if Tony nixes. Sorry, but
no picks just release.

So nobody will give up anything for Tony Romo, but there's a line to sign Josh McCown?

Jerry will gladly take the criticism since he doesn't answer to anyone. Stephen will still hold the money bags and McClay will still be hunting
for bargains. Yep, Dallas Cowboys FA is in full swing.

Pretty sure he won't help Dak. If Dak's injured, our offense won't exactly be helped either.

Yeah, I've looked at McCown's last few performances. He got hurt about as much as Romo do, and when he didn't, the results weren't very good anyway.

I know the guy lit us up a few years back when he was in Chicago, but that was quite a while ago. At 38, he looks to be at the end. I'm getting a Brad Johnson vibe here, where this team signs a guy who's shot and can't play anymore.

If Tony was released the Broncos and Texas would create a market for Tony I think. Since the Cowboys are looking for
picks, there is no market since neither teams wants to trade. Takes at least two teams to make a market.

And the Dallas Cowboys team will continue to suffer for it.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
