Jerry did mention that when he held court recently. Talking about drafting another young quarterback to go with Dak and Kellen Moore (mentioned him specifically). I think that's a much better move than signing McCown.

I agree 100% and I also think that's a better route than signing McCown. We'll see over the next couple of days if anyone on the
Cowboys braintrust feels the same.

Both are not as good as Romo but, youth has it's fountain these days. Teams don't feel the same way about Tony as they did Manning I guess.
It may not be completely over but, the fat lady is practicing scales.

I see no rush at all.

I agree but they must since they are inviting him in and the media is all over it.

I meant for doing anything with Romo. The Cowboys have no deadline or pressure to move him. There's far more pressure on any of these teams that have interest in him, because it obviously means that their quarterback position - the most difficult thing to find in sports - remains unresolved.

We'll know something in two or three weeks for sure. The Cowboys will want a clean deck before draft day. If no one calls about Tony and he's released, we'll have our answer.

Even the draft is 7 weeks away, almost two months. Even if that was somehow a deadline.

Please keep in mind Jerry's "DoRight" rule. Jerry is finally going to allow Tony an opportunity to find a team at some point in this process.
Most teams want their QB identified before the draft or at least during the draft.

This must have to do with Linny wanting him or something. As always we telegraph everything. That gets really old. McCown is a JAG.

Hey, I don't have a problem with that. Ideally, that's how it should be. But that "DoRight" door swings both ways. Doing right by Romo and the Cowboys, not just one.

And that goes back to what I said about who the pressure to get a deal done is truly on, you've said it yourself here:

And just how many backup/coach-on-the-field quarterbacks does a coach need?

Hey! Maybe Kellen Moore is squeezing the team for more money, since Jerry mentioned how much they want him back?

In much the same way Doug Free floated "retirement" to deter the Cowboys from asking him to take a paycut?

The games, the games...

Jerry just can't help himself. He has to spill the beans on everything when a mike is put in his face. I'm sure we will just release Romo as well because "it's the right thing to do by Romo". Jerry needs to go by a white Adidas sweat suit. ;)

It looked to me in that recent video like he already did.
All he needs now are a couple of hundred Members Only jackets!

Why wouldn't Houston?

Maybe because they already have considering assets tied up at qb? Spending another draft pick and 14 million seems a little overboard.

Anyways, I think there is a lot of mutual interest. My hope is that Tony ends up in Houston because he has a real chance to succeed there in a weak division. The Broncos look like a good fit on paper but they have some great pass rushers in that division that can put some helmets on Romo---that alone may make Elway weary of sending a draft pick to acquire him. If Houston is the only team willing to trade for him, that minimizes Romo's trade value because everyone knows he won't be a Cowboy next season so it's either take what we can get or release him.

Oh, it's certainly "overboard", but the Osweiler move was a failure. And everyone, including the Texans, knows it. They admitted themselves when they benched the guy less than one year into the deal. But if you can right a wrong and give yourself a chance for a championship, why wouldn't you do that?

Doesn't that make better sense than to try to force something that's obviously not there? That team - with no quarterback play to speak of - held their own in a playoff game against the eventual Super Bowl champs. Who knows what could have happened if they had one?

And I'm fine with taking whatever they can get. I won't criticize Jerry for getting something. But I will if he gets nothing.

As long as Romo doesn't go to a division rival and most likely stick with AFC, I think he will have adhered to the "DoRight"
principle. At least, that is what I inferred from Jerry's talk.

They are interested in McCown because if signed he will not count against the comp pick formula for next year. He doesn't qualify because he was released for salary cap purposes. Only free agents who had their contracts run out count against the formula. Dallas will likely be interested mainly in free agents who don't qualify with one or two exceptions. When you see players at positions of need that are cut, Dallas may be interested in them. I think they are going heavy after 4 comp pics next year. They will not sign any qualifying free agents to contracts worth more that $3-4 million average per year. They want those 3rd and 4th round comp picks for Leary and Williams.

Cut him and all bets are off.

Yeah, but you know what else doesn't count against comp picks? Not signing him.
