Burlington native Tony Romo was back home Tuesday morning at his old high school stadium, where the Dallas Cowboys quarterback is holding his football camp.

Of course, Romo was forced to answer questions about Brett Favre.

The Wisconsin native would love to see Favre back but reminds everyone not to give up on Aaron Rodgers, with whom he played golf last weekend in Lake Tahoe and almost led the Packers to a comeback win over Romo last November.

"I think Aaron Rodgers is fine. He's a good quarterback. A bit of an unknown because he hasn't played, but so was I, and so was Brett," Romo said.

"I am torn. I would like to see him go to the AFC and have a great time," Romo laughed.

This is just my opnion but Ted Thompson is a bumbling fool.

If I were GM of a team that went 13-3 and had a QB who threw 28 TD passes, completed 66.5% of his passes for 4155 yards and a 95.7 QB rating; I would be flying the company jet to Mississippi to pick him up personally.

No disrespect to Aaron Rodgers, but who is he that you wouldn't want that QB back? I don't care if he is as old as dirt.

Bottom line, do you want to have a legit shot at the Super Bowl? Brett Favre versus Aaron Rodgers is as lopsided as Jessica Alba and Janet Reno in a bikini contest.

You mean the Ted Thompson that took over the team in 2005 only to build them into a contender last year while being 21 million under the salary cap and one of the youngest in the league? ;)

Ouch.:laugh2:

I thought the issue was that Brett Favre doesn't want to play for the Packers, not that the Packers don't want him back.

All you would have to do is call me here in Hattiesburg and tell me to grab Favre and drive him up there. :)

There are 12 million reasons. That's a bundle Hos. I will bet big money Favre was pressured to retire. They obviously believe they can be in the hunt with Rodgers. Maybe they will be a better team even if Rodgers can't duplicate Favre's stats. Not saying that's true just saying that has to be in the debate.

I think they will renegotiate Favre's contract and bring him back or they will allow him to retire then be released.

It's become a whizzing match as well as a matter of money. That complicates things. For awhile. Money always ends.

Passing Yards
Counting yards after the catch:
1 Brady
2 Brees
3 Romo
4 Favre
5 Palmer

Without yards after the catch:
1 Brady 2788
2 Manning 2497
3 Kitna 2496
4 Romo 2492
5 Palmer 2476

10 Favre 2024

If the Packers like Rodgers' timing with the receivers, they probably feel like they're changing an old expensive part for a new cheap one.

I'm with you... since the Packers are claiming to have what it takes to win now, you have to go with the QB that gives you the best chance right now... Favre. If they were tearing the team apart and rebuilding, I would say Rodgers.

I'm really surprised anyone is defending Favre in this controversy.

For all his stats last year and the fact that Brett truly did have a great year I think I understand why the Packers might prefer to move on with Rodgers.
  1. Favre, IMO, still has penchant even in his good years for making the crucial mistakes. He was awful in Dallas last fall and if I recall correctly he made some crucial mistakes vs the Giants in the championship game too.
  2. I think its fair to expect Favre will likely NOT replicate last year's overall strong performance simply because he is what 39? Odds are against him.
  3. Odds of GBay winning a SB with Favre this year? Not good IMO.
  4. Who knows where this guys head truly is? Yes, No, Yes, No... It gets old. It sure seems that Favre has totally yo-yo'd the Packers this summer. So is his word on July 16th suddenly more reliable than his back and forth the last few months?
  5. To me Favre's behavior screams its all about me, not the team. There is a very limited amount of that I'd be willing to put up with and a 39 year old Favre is not worth that IMO.
If I were the Packers I would explore trade options but I wouldn't release the guy. Favre has handled this all completely wrong if the reports of yes, no, yes, no as FO types are trying to board planes to bring him back. Favre painted himself into a corner and it didn't need to be this way. And now he is criticizing the FO to boot?

Maybe we don't have the whole story but from what I read I would handle this pretty much just as the Packers are doing.

In the end though I would be willing to move him for some value. If its the Jets he wants, that happens yesterday. If its the Vikes I might be a bit more discriminating.

My guess is the bigger concern will be how you end up dealing with Rodgers next season were it to play out like you suggest.

He's waited 3 seasons for his shot and to wait at least another season in a contract year leaves the Packers staring down a Brees and Rivers scenario...Rodgers is already missing out on well over 6 million dollars in escalator clauses in his initial contract with Favre back in the mix...And with his contract expiring in 2010, that would leave the 2nd QB taken in the 2005 draft still waiting for a chance to start until the last year of his contract...4 years....On top of the money he will have missed out on, he'll be auditioning for the entire NFL IF given the chance to start in 2009 and then perhaps bolt out of GB and leave them with nothing.

Nevermind all the psyche issues that would likely crop up if Rodgers was relegated back to clipboard duty

The Pack are in a tough position but the 'smart' thing, IMHO, would be to trade Favre and be rid of the internal problems they are sure to have

Good post. Favre is being his selfish self. All he has to do is ask the Packers for a trade. They would accommodate him in a way not detrimental to the team. Instead he wants to roil the waters as he has done now for several years during the off seasons.

Trade him to a team in the same division and face him twice a year? I doubt it, but you never know.
