Quelching the doubts against Jaydon Blue

One more, day three RBs have low success rate.

Bucky Irving round 4 pick 125 in 2024
207 attempts for 1122 yards

Tyrone Tracy round 5 pick 166 in 2024
192 attempts for 839 yards
Only about 20 percent of Day 3 backs succeed. Pointing out the ones who beat the odds doesn't change that.

It's not that he can't be a RB1. I don't want him to be. I would prefer were split time in a thunder and lightning scenario. I love the way the Lions were using Montgomery as a battering ram and Gibbs as a slasher. Saves Gibbs over the long haul and Montgomery was effective too.

Plus, I think Blue will be better receiving out of the backfield than Pollard was.
I expect Javonte Williams to start with Blue mixed in.

There are 7 RB's on the current roster.

2024 leftovers
Luepke, more of a FB and may be out if Mafah can do what he does, along with a TE if they keep 4 TE's
Davis' time has come, even for the PS depending on who is kept.
Deuce, can his spot be in jeopardy also, again depending how many they keep

FA's
Williams, some fans think he is done, but is he?
Sanders, same as Williams, but I see Williams and the rookies having a roster spot over him

Drafted
Blue, he will make at the team, they like their draft picks, and look at the above competition. His speed alone gets him a spot.
Mafah, basically his competition is Luepke and Williams.

This should be an interesting TC battle for the top 3 RB's. Do they each do enough for them to keep 4.
Could be one of the more competitive areas, along with WR2.

good breakdown. thanks for this.

The routes out of the backfield alone are worth the pick. Blue's speed in those routes make him almost unguardable by LBs, and he hasn't even learned how to change his pace (decelerate/accelerate) to set them up, yet.

My questions were centered around the between the tackles runs, power, pass pro, and fumbling. I've recently watched Blue's game a lot, and the only thing I saw answered was pass pro. However...it's dumb to run speed RBs up the middle, power can come but it's not necessary due to his speed. People say you can coach the fumbling, but I'm not going to act like Tashard Choice didn't coach that aspect, so Blue has to work on that.

My 2 cents: I hope Blue gets with the strength & conditioning coach and add strength to his legs to churn thru tackles and build his chest and arms to hold on to the rock. Just 10 more pounds of muscle.

Jaydon Blue...

  • Can't run between the Tackles
  • Can't make tacklers miss
  • Can't break tackles
  • Can't be physical
  • Can't pass protect
  • Can't see the field well / no vision
  • Can't be a RB1
  • Can't be a 3 down RB

Hmm...let's see...

Every NFL RB who has ever been drafted has an amazing highlight video.

The difference with those two is they beat all of the RBs taken on day one and two. They were the top two rookies in the draft by a pretty wide margin.

I think he can have a Tony Pollard type impact in a shared backfield.

He has some Jahmyr Gibbs to his game for sure. They are the same exact size by the way. The Lions have an explosive offense and they have a great RB combo with Gibbs and Montgomery. We need our Montgomery or early career Ezekiel Elliott.
Darius Jackson who we took in the 6th round in 2016 was the same size and had a 4.35 40. Some were going crazy over him and he only lasted one season with the Cowboys. The jury is out on Blue until we see him this summer and during the season, assuming he makes the team.

Yeah, and many fans had Jackson in the HOF before his foot hit that ground in rookie mini camp. Saying he was better than Zeke.

:lmao:
