I would say that Bennett and Avril have been a strong backbone. Might not be superstars, but a lot better than average.

That is their baseline. We have not got to that yet.

Yes thank you I hate it when people make it seem like they have straight JAGs like we do on their dline!

Bennett and Avril would be walk in starters right now along with that kid (who we should have taken the chance on) Frank clark i thknk? the Dlinemen from michigan who slipped due to off the field stuff has been a young stud for them

Like an earlier poster stated, it's like running back by committee. If you have a stud running back, you use him and only spell him ocassionally. Heck, peeps here get upset when Zeke is taken off the field on some third down situations and takes more than a series rest. If you have elite players, they need to play.

I find it very hard to believe that Khalil Mack or Von Miller would not be getting 70-80% of the snaps at defensive end if they were Dallas Cowboys. We better not be rotating those guys lol.

Bennett, Avril and Clark as Cowboys would have people around here betting their house, dog and best friend on a Super Bowl title.

The 90s Cowboys were built pre-salary cap with ridiculous depth. You had starting quality players on the bench. To mention that in defense of this is nonsense.

The team lacks talent. So they rotate.

The worst part is I think this is how our overrated defensive coordinator wants it. He loves those under-talented effort guys. Just look at his draft reaction when they took Ivie. Charlton, Awuzie or Lewis didn't get that reaction.

I think you rotate these days even if you have big talent on the DL. The early 90s DL rotated although some got more snaps. Even a D Ware comes out occasionally. If you're Randy White etc then you just get more snaps.

Solve all problems and just line up:

Bob Lilly
Randy White
DeMarcus Ware
Charles Haley

...what is on roster now, works well in rotation!:)

Right now would be a good time to target some top shelf defensive linemen, to push strongly into the future now. Maybe pony up some picks to get a similar snap shot again.

It is all part of the philosophy. Hey, give him Bob Lilly's number too, just for added effect.

Marinelli, the master motivator of high effort guys.

This list clearly shows that the better players play more snaps. Not any more complicated than that.

Would they still rotate some? Sure, even the very best need a break every now and then. But if a player separates himself from the pack, he'll play more snaps.

If we're evenly rotating snaps, it's because we don't have players distinguishing themselves from the rest.

Consistency is a problem that lends itself to it as well. Irving could make some splash plays but he was not consistent. If he were, he would be rotated in and out less.

Most definitely. I'm hoping that he takes that next step this year. He can nail down a LDE role for himself, help the team immensely, and get himself closer to a monster payday. Everybody wins. The tools and measurables are certainly there.

I just went back and watched some highlights from the Tampa Bay game and he dominated Gosder Cherilus. Flat out embarrassed him and beat him every which way a guy could get beat. If he can ever out tat together consistently? Look out!

He abused both Cherilus and his replacement Leonard Wester. Well, Cherilus retired as his body is too beat up and Wester is hardly a top talent.

It is one thing to overwhelm mediocre linemen with talent alone but it has to come against better opponents with more regularity.

Are we rotating because it's a philosophy we have for our defense or are we rotating because we don't have superstar pro bowl caliber players on defense. I have a hard time believing coach Rod would rotate Brooks Sapp Lynch Barber so on and so forth.
Times have changed, with all the passing defensive linemen get gassed getting after the QB. Pass rushing play after play beats the hell out of you. OL use their butts and upper body strength to pass block DL exert more energy because they are on attack mode.

I said this before.......................I didnt see Sapp getting rotated out for anything more than rest. Its great to have a rotation, but in the big moments and most of the game you arent sitting Sapp on the bench so you can have a nice rotation. If you have a stud, he is going to get most of the reps. Which to this point, we dont have a stud anywhere on the line. NO one of pro bowl caliber. At least we havent seen it as of yet.

I'm hoping he gets more opportunity to show it as well. I think he's flashed more than Crawford or Lawrence at that spot and I'd like to see more.
