I just went to over the cap dot-com and it says jalen's in the last year of his contract. that can't be right because he missed his first year so doesn't that automatically add an extra year to his contract?

It should Randy Gregory was drafted 2017 and since he missed 2 years he has 2 years left on his rookie contract

So basically it adds another year. That's what i though. Thanks for posting.

Yup. Of course the risk with a tender is that another team could be desperate enough to sign him to an offer sheet.
Unlikely, but you never know. Of course the Cowboys could match.

My thought is they lock him up next year if he has the same performance, if not better. But they have the fallback of the tender if they can't come to a long term agreement by a certain date.

Nope his contract ends in 2020.

He'll be a RFA though. We'll tag him with a first rounder, my guess, and let him play off that and or sign him long term.
By 2020 he'll only have 3 years experience.
I thought he was going into his 3rd year of his contract and this would be his last season on his rookie deal. Just checked it though. Thanks

It still hasn't been settled officially...... I have seen both options reported

The team has never said his rookie didn't count..... he was paid in full even while on the NFI and IR

I would expect an extension this season either way

Similar situation with former Bengals QB AJ McCarron. He was injured in his 1st season and the Bengals tried to hold onto him for an extra year but in the long run MCCarron was granted his freedom. Unlike some players in the NFL I believe the Jaylon is a stand up guy and will take a team friendly deal. Not saying he will come cheap but the Cowboys did stand by him during the span when people claimed his career to be over and Jaylon will factor

He missed his first season due to injury and yes, he's an UFA in 2021, not 2020. RFA in 2020

I remember that McCarron situation- if I remember right the Bengals had a deal in place to send him to the Browns but the NFL said no because of that year he missed with injury.

And I agree about Smith. And he also wears his emotions on his sleeve and stepped into a leadership role this year. I love this guy's confidence and I think the Cowboys will reward him.

He also improved as the season went on, so there are articles saying he still isn't 100%. He may be at 90 or 95% and still playing at a Pro Bowl level.

If we still haven't seen a 100 percent Jaylon Smith, then he's going to tear the league apart next season. Because he was awesome in 2018.:starspin:

By circus freak, do you mean the MLB who sacked Carson "Hit the bench, we decided you have a phantom injury" Wentz?
Yeah, that goober who will never be any kind of player in the NFL that made Wentz tell everyone he's a choker with his choke sign while nobody choked him, but himself.
That guy. You know... the "gimp".

Interesting. I know they "activated" him off the NFI in November(16), but he never officially made the 53 man roster.
I would assume since he was never active, he never gained experience.

Spotrac, which shows him as an UFA in 2020, only shows 2 years experience, while M. Collins has 3 years experience.
