Question at NT for the Cowboys

We're looking for a backup at NT, not a starter, so I wouldn't expect to hear a NT's name called on day 1.

I think our first pick will be a SS, CB, LB, OL, or WR....I think it could literally be any of those positions depending on best player available. However, if we have a SS guy that we think could start, we may position that first pick forward or backward to purposefully make that position and player our first pick.

I think a fireplug would be a good idea. About 6-1 and 315 with very low center of gravity (in other words a big butt and huge legs). Quick and strong.
AND above ALL ELSE a never ending motor.

Any opinion on Roy Miller than in the Draft? We could probably get him in the 5th or 6th round.

No we don't need a starter at NT. We have one but his defense is a gap attack one. Ratliff is one of the best in the league at that. But he gets knocked around too much. Some teams take advantage of that and we need someone to put in there and stop them from pounding inside not to mention short yardage, goal line as well as rotation. That's not a starter but a specific role player who is going to get 20+ snaps a game.

We don't have that guy on the team IMO. I think it's a must have need.

i love Dorrell Scott, as 41gy mentioned. The guy is a plugger but is athletic with good hands and feet. I am hoping we take him in the 3rd.

Do you think Wade is look for a massive run plugger type who doesn't get much penetration but can rather occupy double teams and hold his ground (i.e., a complement to Ratliff), OR

do you think he wants a similar type of player as Ratliff - in other words, maybe not a 330 lbs run plugger, but more of a guy who can hold up against the run but is more of a penetrator rather than an occupier (not that Ratliff can't do that as well - but he's a pro bowler)?

In the Draft (or perhaps in FA as well) there are many ways to go, depending on what type of player Wade is looking for.

Clearly we brought back Saivaii (sp?) to compete, and my guess is he's more of the run plugger type - whereas Tank was supposed to be more of the penetrator type.

Or does Wade bring in one of each, and whoever has the best TC, wins the rotation spot? Basically, Wade will then adapt the defense to whatever type he gets.

Personally, I'd like to get the massive run plugger type (Pat Williams type) just for some diversity on the DL so maybe we have different types of DL to show different looks.

But that said, anytime you get a DL who can raise havoc in the backfield and collapse the pocket, maybe you take him - maybe even if he can't hold off double teams all the time.

I think massive run-plugger, i.e. Ron Brace w/ our 2nd rounder!

Particularly if we move Scandrick to Safety, CB, too me, is the biggest need. Jenkins may be underestimated, but Ball, to me, does not belong on the field. Nevertheless, considering the talent depth in various positions and what I predict will be several teams scrambling to pick up 3-4 ready lineman, albeit for a back up position, I still say the Cowboys address NT first. See my signature for my ideal mock.

Just a question..why do you have a D-lineman on your mock in round 2? That would be such a waste of a pick.

Aren't the prototypical 3-4 NTs 'anchor' types? That would be my choice- Ron Brace would be great but I think the Cowboys need a SS and ILB more than a DT. In the 2nd I would go SS.

he's a player who could excel in our system, he's a stouter Ratliff, Ratliff is the lean machine while Roy is a bowling ball

I think Wade wants the best player available there. But, his scheme allows the possibility of a smaller NT to play there because it's a 1 gap scheme instead of a 2 gap scheme.

I think he probably looks for bigger guys since it's probably a safer bet to find a player who can play that position, but I think since Ratliff worked out he's not against it. The Ravens play a similar 3-4 scheme and use Kelly Gregg, a smallish NT.

please all u longhorn buttlicks stop praying for miller there are 3 or 4 dts that fit the 3-4 scheme better... but for my main point think of the season bradie james had last year and what he could have done if we had a legit nt thats about 320 330 and can take on double teams...he had 8 sacks ur looking at least 10 if we had a nt
