He's technically already assistant HC, from what I hear....but the niners would probably consider it a promotion for him to be the true DC.

Except as head coach, he can only join the Cowboys in any coaching position with the permission of the 49ers.

why would they block a guy that they are not even interviewing for DC?

not really good form on their part to do something like that

If memory serves (and that is dicey at best!) Dallas did it last year with Bowles and New Orleans.

Last year the Cowboys blocked the opportunity for the Saints to interview Sparano because any team can block any interview for any staff member unless it is for head coach. I don't believe that is the case when it comes to hiring.

If in an interview for head coach, a team decides the candidate would be a great defensive coordinator and offers that job, I don't believe that the other team, San Fran in this case, can absolutely keep the candidate from signing as defensive coordinator. There might be contract buyouts or whatever, but I don't think it is an absolute no.

I believe that there must be wording in a contract that allows for an out in order for that to be successful (Could be wrong, though).

It's too late to block Singletary from accepting a position, imo. When they let him interview, they gave him permission to leave if he wants.

I thought he didn't need their permission to interview since it is allegedly for an HC position.

we need to get singletary as a DC..have problem with your linebackers? get a serious, not over the hill, motivated, old linebacker who can coach...especially one of the greatest....this guy aint no joke...he can teach and get in people's faces! every linebacker would get better immediately!
