Question DL Starters

The Cowboys have met with three DTs projected to go in the first round - Vita, Payne, and Bryan.

I fully expect LB/DT to be the 1st and 2nd round picks. Vita or Payne if they’re there in the first. If not, Vander Esch and a DT in the 2nd.
I will take that.

you dont think Irving starts?
I got
Irving- Collins - Price - Lawrence

I definitely don't think Irving starts at defensive end.

While I personally think that he might be very good there, this team has never seemed to agree with me. I see Irving coming back for one last season in Dallas to be this team's pass-rushing defensive tackle.

I'm not so much interested in who starts, it seems we'er going to have a pretty competitive a rotation. What I'm looking for is a group that can "throw open the gates of hell and deliver an unrelenting wave of destruction"... yeah it's like that. NFL Films.... cue the music:thumbup:

When I look back a few years ago at the starters on the D-line, like Selvie and Nick Hayden to name a couple, we've come a long way baby. Another forgotten piece is Datone Jones who can rotate in and out. Taco will get his share of reps and if he continues to improve the share will get bigger. Now if we just had that big DT1 we've been talking about for a few years the D-line would certainly hold it's own against any team in the league. Have to keep our eye on Price and se what he has.We have come a long way. I like the Ealy signing. Now let's get after the LB'er depth in the draft
Agreed. Don't really care who starts or how they rotate. Just keep adding talent (hopefully VV) and if they stay healthy, should be competitive.

Current DL on the roster. But hard to say at times on a few of them, DT or DE.

Lawrence
Crawford
Collins
Charlton
Ealy
Irving, once he signs his tender
Tapper
Price
Ash
Ross
Neal
Jones
Gregory, if reinstated

...

I am pretty sure that Irving signed his tender very quickly.

I just really hope we move collins back to 3t he was a beast at that spot and really struggled at the 1t last season.

Broken metatarsal while Collins played 1tech. And he didn't train for it in the offseason. He's actually much of what Marinelli wants in a 1tech. With Irving signed, it's likely Collins stays at 1tech.

Given the numbers and talent, I'd rather move Crawford back inside. Prefer playing Collins and Irving on pass downs. In particularly, Irving always had the reputation of being better when his snaps were limited.

Ideal is that Taco can be a 3 down like Lawrence, but gets lots of rest. I'm not sure he's that good though.
Further ideal is that Gregory/Tapper can be a pass rush specialist, spelling Taco and Lawrence.
Maybe Ealy should be a run defense DE with Lawrence. He's got lots of size and athleticism.

Run
RDE - Taco, Crawford, Ealy
3DT - Crawford, Irving
1DT - Collins, Price
LDE - Lawrence, Ealy

Pass
RDE - Taco, Gregory/Tapper, Ealy
3DT - Irving, Crawford
1DT - Collins, Crawford
LDE - Lawrence, Gregory/Tapper, Ealy

Knowing pretty much who the DL Players are currently (we may take a DT in Draft) but right
now who would you start on the DL ?

Also who's better Taco or Kony ?

I'm thinking Lawrence, Irving, DT from Draft and Kony...your thoughts...

Until further notice, Taco is nothing more than a project. Lawrence and Irvin are the only two very good DL on the team. Crawford is solid, but way overpaid. Malik is good, but not a difference maker. And he was looking so promising. Ealy? What has he done in this league? JAG

I'm going to guess;
Lawrence-Irving-Payne-Taco
Second wave being;
Ealy-Collins-Price-Crawford.

I think there's a decent chance we move Ealy inside, and not just on passing downs. He looked a little bigger than 275 to me in the pic of him eating wings with JJT.

Hmm, not very often you transition from OLB to DT. But Marinelli is a mad genius. Or just a grumpy old man. Probably more like a mad grumpy old man.

My thought as well. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Ealy got snaps at 3T in camp. Rod seems to have a lot of success with these big guys with length when they get off the ball. Hatcher, Irving, now we'll see with Ealy.

If he shows a knack for it, I'd expect him to see snaps inside next to Irving on passing downs. A Taco, Irving, Ealy, Lawrence could be pretty good.

I think RDE is Tacos position to lose at this point.

No idea what we'll do at 1T. If Vita is there he may very well be the pick, I don't know. Otherwise I'd expect us to take a guy later or sign one after the draft. If they think Ealy can backup 3T I think they may just roll with Collins/Price

My issue with that is that, from what I understand, Ealy has a decent amount of experience at weakside DE, which we certainly need, IMO. You might move Lawrence there if you think Taco is a better fit on the strongside, but it doesn't hurt having another guy (Ealy) that can
line up there besides Crawford.

IIRC, teams were considering bulking him up and moving him to DT when he came out. With those arms and his knack for getting hands in passing lanes, it makes some sense.

That was what, 5 years ago? And most recently they had him at OLB. Hardly the same direction.

But whatever works. It's a one year deal. I don't care if they move him to guard if that's where he can help.

Pass

3DT - Irving, Crawford
1DT - Collins, Crawford

Collins is terrible against the run.

If it was up to me it would be..
Starters
LE 1T 3T RE
Irving, draft pick, Collins, Lawrence
2nd string
Taco, Price, Crawford, Ealy
Wild card is Gregory
