So, I was just reading on another board (/.) and a guy posted a message and right at the bottom put the following text: "BTW, I am American and live in Texas.".

Someone else responded with: "Well you're certainly not native to Texas. Most folk I know from there claim to be "Texans living in America".

The statement made me laugh about how true that is for many Texans. So now the question is, are you a Texan living in American, or an American living in Texas? Obviously, I'm a Texan living in America though not Texas.:

As Jerry Jeff Walker said "I'm an American by chance and a Texan by the grace of God." :laugh2:

Everybody is a citizen of their state first, a state which joined up with other states to form a union or country second.

I believe the only citizens of the US who aren't state citizens are those living in US territories or on a federal district (DC).

American by birth... Texan by the grace of God...

Never ask a man where he is from... if he's from Texas, he'll tell you... if he ain't... you don't want to embarrass him... ;)

A story I will share that still makes me laugh.

A few army buddies and I went to astroworld years ago.

A few of us went to use the restroom and it was quite busy.

One guy was from Tennessee and when he finished he started to walk out of the restroom before washing his hands.

For some reason some guy decided he had to be a buttinsky and say...Son, In Texas we wash our hands after we use the bathroom. Without missing a beat my buddy said...Well in Tennessee, where I am from, we don't pee on our hands.

That still cracks me up. I don't know if the line was as funny as the look on the other guys face as he had no retort to that and probably was thinking he just should have kept his mouth shut and his thoughts to himself.

I'm a Texan living in Canada.

They get a kick out of the fact that I always say Texan and not American.

What was it 1845 when Texas annexed the US? Can't quite remember the date. :laugh2:

No other people are as proud to be from their birth state as a Texan is to be from theirs! PERIOD

Some call it pride, others call it arrogance. Either way, it's noticeable.

:laugh2: I've heard that many times, just not by someone from Tennessee! :lmao2:

Extra-terrestrial, living on Earth, specifically the State of Texas in the United States of America.

I was once asked in Europe where I was from. I responded, "the US." They sort of laughed sarcastically asking "but where in the US -- the US is so big, when we ask where you're from, we refer to what state you're from."

I thought it was interesting question/response. I guess it's similar to someone saying "I'm from Europe." Obviously a more specific answer is usually required.

Maybe a little of both. No doubt the people of Texas have great pride in our state.

When you are from Texas people know it as soon as you start talking. :laugh2:
