Question for my fellow Texans

move soon so you can establish residency, otherwise you will still pay out of state tuition. my cousin went through that, she moved to her dads(my uncles) middle of junior year(i think) and she didn't have residency in Texas or Ohio

Exactly. In-State tuition is about $4,800 per semester the way it looks.

Out of state is pretty close to $16,000.

The difference over a 4 year degree, assuming you make it out in 4 (6th Street will do things to your GPA) is about $90,000.

Pack your bags. You need to be living here two years to get in-state discount.

this!

Born and raised in Texas but moved when I joined the military years ago.
When people ask where I'm from I reply that I'm a displaced Texan, lol.

For what it's worth, Officers in the United States Military swear to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. There are also no provisions in our Oath of Office subject to any one person, collection of people, etc.

Even Bob?

LOL! you can tell exactly which responses come from those that aren't from TEXAS!!

Born in Toronto, grew up in Texas and migrated to New York. You'll have to pardon me, but I consider myself a Texan.

Whenever anyone asks me where I'm from, I always say, "I was born in Canada, but grew up in Texas." I could live in New York for another 50 years and if anyone asks me where I'm from, I'll still say Texas.

Yeah that does suck. My dad really wants to move to Texas even though he's a Giants fan (yuck), but there's resistance from my mother's side of the family. I honestly would rather move to Texas then worry about what city and what school.

well as was said, you need 2 years of residency to get in state tuition and it may very from state to state but i think once you haven't lived in a state for a year you don't get in state tuition in that state so what ever they decide tell them to move their butts unless they just like spending extra money for college

Same here about NY. I could remain living here, but I always say I'm from Texas. (not that my accent that is still strong as an ox doesn't define the fact that I'm a Texan right off the bat. :laugh2: )

My wife is a New Yorker and she has an extreme pride about being a New Yorker. She still hates when we are on vacation and people ask where we are from and I still say "New York, but Texas is home." Once they walk away, she jumps all over me saying, "Your home is in NY. If you like Texas so much, why don't you go back!" :laugh2:
