Thornton's gonna play the 1-tech. In Marinelli's scheme, the 1T isn't EXPECTEDLY to be a pass rusher. His role is to draw double teams to allow the 3T (Crawfoed, who IS a pass rusher) to go 1on 1 with the guard.

also, Irving did the majority of his damage last year on the inside, not at DE. He's being looked at as a DE this year, but he'll still provide some depth on the inside until Collins is back.

DE is where all the questions lie.

Period or for just four games? With the return of Lawrence and Gregory I think the pass rush will be more than adequate, if not better. Elite and/or great might be wishful thinking. But with the Cowboys offense you really don't have to have great or elite.

That's why I'M talking about. 4 games. We're not talking the entire season.

While Marinelli likes his one gap techniques he wants to play much more than that. No one wants to do the same thing over and over.....that's asking for trouble. We have just not had the personnel to play much more.

The 1 tech is expected to take on some double teams from the G and C but you'd prefer to not do so. Also the 1 and 3 play one gap techniques that move them off the double team as in a shoot and hold or just shooting the gap. So there is no simple answer to what the 1 does....hopefully.

Hayden wasn't strong enough to not shoot the gap and then hold double teams consistently. And most 1 techs aren't. That's why guys like Williams got the big bucks for 1 techs. Also, when you are shaded in a one gap and you get zone blocked while leaning the wrong way then not very many players can maintain their lane...if they have one. We don't play much 0 tech but do on occasion.

Thorton and Crawford should be able to generate some pass rush. Everyone on the DL is expected to the majority of the time to create pressure. irving should be able to get pressure inside. I don't know about Collins.
