Question For Parents (Cowboys Related)

Of course they can pull for whatver team they like. Just don't expect me to buy them team gear.:D

Our daughter's middle name is Dallas. She watches parts of games with us and likes to yell "Go Cowboys" and "Touchdown!" She's only 5 so she loses interest after awhile, but I don't know that she understands you can root for any other team.

Not that there's anything wrong with that! :D

Trust me,.......with all the pitfalls and problems a kid can run into growing up, the LAST thing you should even be thinking about is what sports team they cheer for, if they cheer for one at all. Totally unimportant.

I get where you are coming from but let me tell you from experience, my dad raised me and my brother to be Dodger fans, we loved the Dodgers. We had so many great experiences going to Dodger stadium, hearing Vin Scully on the radio, watching games on tv, etc. I still remember being with my brother and my dad on Gibbies home run agaist the A's, we stood up when he hit it and just inched closer to the tv as the ball was going out, I can still remember Vin Scully, "she is gooone", we just burst out yelling, hugging and high fiving, it was trully one of the best moments of my life and one I will never forget.

So its not totally unimportant.

This is kinda random, but for all of you who are parents and have kids. We're obviously all die hard Cowboys fans here at the Zone, but let's say one of your kids turned it to be a fan of a different team like let's say the Iggles or Giants. Would you have a serious issue with that or just let them be?

...let them be.

They are their own person and one needs to encourage that.

It's only a sports team. As a parent there are much bigger battles to take on.

One son and daughter follows the Cowboys. The other son is a Falcons fan. I have way more issues dealing wtih teenagehood than fretting over team allegiances.

Sorry in advance, but it isn't a priority for me.

I would be fine with it after that last bubble emitted from their nose under water... ;)

Seriously... and all of my kids are Cowboy fans (I raised them right), kids are kids and as long as they are good kids, they can root for who they want (while they live somewhere else)... ;)

College-wise, we are all over the place... but we all like the 'boys...

I would just be happy my kids were into sports.

As long as they are informed, intelligent fans I wouldn't care.

Gifts might be a little light around the holidays...

Gifts... WHAT gifts?

None of mine are Cowboys' fans. But they respect my fanaticism and one listens politely when I rant about each and every player on the roster. Of course, I listen to him rant about Clemson and I alternate my Clemson hat with my Carolina one just for them. My brother gnashes his teeth when he sees me in a Clemson hat and Carolina shirt.

You, sir, are a crappy mod... wrangle those rugrats in... :D

Vin Scully is a HUGE Cowboy fan... so you indirectly were brought up right... ;)

I tried, but none of my kids are Cowboys fans. :(

My oldest daughter is a Broncos fan (I knew I should have gotten her out of Wyoming before she went to school). Son is a Rams fan (also from Wyoming, so I have no idea where the hell that came from), but he does root for my Cowboys with me (unless, of course they're playing the Rams). Youngest daughter is a Vikings fan (like her mom).

It is what it is.

Good God!! How do you get out of bed everyday?!

For the rest of you........ you clearly are not beating your children enough.

:D

My son is a die hard Cowboy fan and we live in Bronco country. I was really concerned he'd turn on me for his friends and become a Bronco fan. So far so good. My wife's daughter, :), is a Bronco fan.......i slip her carrot sticks under the closet door twice a week........heh.

My dad and both of my brothers are die-hard steeler fans. My whole family is for that matter.

I am the black sheep.

Both of my boys and my wife are Cowboy fans, but I must admit I almost lost my oldest during the late 80's when he was in Jr. High. He took a lot of abuse and sort of followed John Elway and Montana for a while.

Kids don't like being the kid that cheers for losers.

The 3 Super Bowls won them both over big time!

I bet parents now-a-days have a hard time selling the Cowboys to their kids.

I know a kid who is 16 and is a Cowboys fan, ... I bow before him because he has known nothing but heartache and yet is still a fan.

Let them be. Pro sports is pure entertainment. While loyalty is important, where you start doesn't really bother me.

Now on the other hand, I would be much more upset if they became a fan of a rival University. There is much more of a family connection there.

Lol that pretty much describes me except I'm a few years older.

I think I have bowed before you one time a while ago on this board, ... if not ...

Ehh, that's nothing a wire coat hanger and a cigarette couldn't fix.

Seriously though I don't care. My son plays DE and TE in middle school and is a pretty good player. He loves the game, but wouldn't cross the street to watch somebody else play football. He watches zero sports yet plays tennis, golf, select soccer, and football. I'd rather him play than watch.

Plays for the middle school, but no interest in the high school?

Does more than one middle school feed the high school?

4 middle schools feed 2 highschools. No, I can't even get him to go watch Friday night football. He's a good player but I don't think he'll have the size to play high school football or the speed for soccer at that level. Golf and tennis are a different story. He should be able to play both and really compete at golf.
