The intention is for this not to be another typical Dak thread. This is for the contingent fans that are ready to move on from Prescott as the QB of the Dallas Cowboys. Instead of debating Dak’s merits (or lack thereof) again, let’s operate under the supposition that we’re moving on, as that is the cry from so many.

So, the question is how do you do so and who is the target. Obviously the two options that exist are free agency and the draft.

2019 Free agents QBs: ................ 2019 probable Draft QBs:

Tyrod Taylor ........................ Justin Herbert, Oregon.
Josh McCown ........................ Drew Lock, Missouri.
Teddy Bridgewater ........................ Will Grier, West Virginia.
Ryan Fitzpatrick ........................ Dwayne Haskins, Ohio State.
Robert Griffin III ........................ Ryan Finley, NC State.
Derek Anderson ........................ Clayton Thorson, Northwestern.
Geno Smith ........................ Jarrett Stidham, Auburn.
Brock Osweiler ........................ Tyree Jackson, Buffalo.
Matt Barkley
Tom Savage
Taylor Heinicke
Brett Hundley
Trevor Siemian

Obviously some of the Draft picks will be out of reach without our #1 pick. Additionally, you can pretty much guarantee you’re not going to win a championship with a rookie. It’s an investment that takes time.

On the FA front, there may be a few QBs that are available with a trade. Possible Carr, maybe Winston.

So what’s the plan ladies & gentlemen?

If Bridgewater didn't cost a ton I would bring him in to compete with Dak.

That being said I think Dak is a franchise QB and needs more weapons. Funny guys like Wentz only play bad because they don't have weapons and then the team gets him a number 1 receiver and things change. Goff is another example with coaching being the best change for him and drafting a guy like Kupp.

Not sure why Dak isn't afforded the same as other QBs and it's just him as being the problem.

I figured Bridgewater would be popular.

What do you pay him, though? He's on 1 year $6 million now. Figure he'll be looking for more and a multi-year deal.

I'm give him about $8 million with some play incentives and a 2020 option.

Not sure he can get that much without having played, but I think it will be more than the $6 mil he's playing under.
Thats the rumor after his preseason explosion and looking healthy.

$8M suggested above is a fairy tale that wont happen. Wish we had pounced earlier.

I hate to when people use an exception instead of rule example, but using Bradford as an example. I dont see any way that Teddy gets less than $15M given his play and youth.

Bridgewater and draft someone in 2020. I’m a big fan of Teddy’s and I think he’s the perfect QB for this kind of offense. He’s still young enough that we could get some really good years out of him.

Therein lies the problem. What option is there at this point? Not much, at least that is clear at the moment.

I do NOT want to replace Dak with some knucklehead that lacks his poise and posture. There really is much to like about him as a consistently good dude pulling on the right end of the rope.

Teddy Bridgewater intrigues me a bit. Next year's draft doesn't promise much, and the first-rounder is already traded away. Supposed to be a bad draft for QBs and WRs, which is why Amari Cooper made sense.

My biggest fear is that Dallas locks itself into a massive contract with Dak, whose limitations are very apparent. What if this run game declines with age and mileage as it likely will? Dak is not a quarterback you can hitch your wagon to and ask him to throw you to the playoffs like Romo often could.

The only way you can truly contend with Dak is with a team like Baltimore or Tampa had in the 90s. And I'm not sure that level of defense is possible anymore with the rules of today.

The best approach is to get Dak signed to a contract with lots of "outs" in it, then keep drafting QBs until you either hit on one or Dak turns into something well beyond what he is. Then be ready to pounce on a Garrapolo or Cousins if all the other parts are in place.

I want Lincoln Riley before they do anything, to be honest.

It seems to me that Dak has two issues that if addressed properly he would be much more effective.

1. His foundation has to be correct for him to throw. He has to step into the throw. Simple really, but this fanbase got used to Romo hanging by a toenail and throwing underhand. His delivery point could be one of many, and he was accurate with all of them. Dak has to follow through on his delivery, which means his foot work is at a premium.

I am not so much disgusted when he one hops one in to the receiver. It's not a pick. But when you see the receiver wide open on a simple pass play it is frustrating.

Which means point two is linked to one.

2. Clean delivery point. What gets Dak in trouble, outside of him waiting out receivers with what appears to be little anticipation, is his ease at being disrupted by the traffic around him. A clean pocket at the site of his delivery is necessary. Probably is with most QBs. But as the game progresses and the defense starts finding ways to break through and harass him, this offensive staff needs to discover a way for him to move him in a way to open up a clean site for the pass to be thrown.

There have been many discussions about what Parcells meant about a bus driver. People suggested Romo was a bus driver. Now that you have seen Dak for almost three seasons, any inkling that Romo was a bus driver should have been corrected in your mind. If you still think that, maybe you should go buy a book on football.

Bus drivers can win. Dak has shown when he gets in a position to ramp up his game, he has that ability.

Coaching should cause him to start throwing the ball away a bit more and taking less sacks. But then that would require Dallas had a coach who actually communicates this with Dak, and he actually listens.

But schematically this offense should be able to read the tea leaves as a game progresses and make adjustments to his throwing spot, and within that adjustment use the line and TE's to clear the path.

I guess this is off topic to the thread. Sorry about that. But I believe Dak has something and a marriage of coaching him up and utilizing scheme to get him into a winning throwing position would go a long, long way in making him a successful bus driver with a little something extra.

IF I am Bridgewater, I rather go to Jacksonville.

It's because the hate is coming from the still upset Romoholics. They hate Dak!

The answer is at least 1 QB, we can always trade 1 later for picks or pieces if necessary.

Herbert is supposedly a strong lean to stay in school.

That makes the 2020 class possibly loaded at qb. Dak is still under his rookie contract, why would we move on from him a year early?

I bring in a new OC (kingsbury?) for next year. can dak improve under the new OC? if not, we are drafting high anyway and can look at a number of possible choices in the 2020 draft. Fromm, Eason, Tua, Herbert, etc.

As a Dak detractor here is what I would do.

1) No extension for Dak. He plays 2019 under his current deal.
2) I draft someone in the 2nd or 3rd round - Finley, maybe a Grier (if they fall as both might get overvalued and end up in Rd 1). The kid from Duke is another raw kid that might be there in the 3rd round.
3) I investigate what it could cost for Bridgewater. No other FA makes sense.
4) I bring in a legit OC that can work with a QB like Dak. Linehan and Moore get crap canned.

I am basically carpet bombing the QB position this offseason, if I can.
