Mob mentality is a curious thing. It's an opportunity for your average every day p**** to rally around the the strength in numbers of a bunch of other average everyday p****** and act like a tough guy. There, in a nutshell, is a pretty accurate description of your average Eagles game attendee.
:hammer:

These guys are pathetic losers. I'd love to see Larry Allen walk in to watch a game in his jersey and see what HE got thrown at him.

As others have said, the worst part of this isn't that Philly has a few depraved idiots, but that they actually TAKE PRIDE in acting the way they do.

And alcohol is absolutely no excuse. Is Philly the only NFL stadium where alcohol is sold?

The best part of all this is that these same "dedicated" "fans" will turn on McNabb and the rest of their team in a heatbeat when they go in the toilet and T.O. can no longer be used as an excuse. We can do our part to put them on that downward spiral this weekend.

I will tell you, as someone who lives within reach of the Philly airwaves, that the radio hosts here are actively inciting things. There was a long dialog this morning on the most popular sports radio show in the area (ironically just before Florio was invited on) about how, by taunting T.O., they can push him over an emotional edge and cause him to do something that will get him thrown off the team.

You have to understand that the fans (and media) here do not live in reality. Really, I am dead serious. They believe that Bill never wanted to sign TO. They believe Bill wanted to cut him before September and Jerry overruled him. They believe Bill is one step away from "him or me" - and they think that they can be the ones to push things over the edge.

Again, I am not kidding about this, it's your explanation. They were discussing it for over an hour this morning on the radio.

Actually... TO is too smart to do something that would get him kicked... he wants to win on all fronts... that would be a loss for him....

I didn't realize TO injured all your players last year...

you REALLY need to act your age if you blame TO for your poor season

First of all, let's get one thing straight. The Eagles organization, coaching staff, and Donovan McNabb destroyed the Eagles team last year, NOT T.O.

SS

That was some entertaining post, and with enough truth in it to shed light on the core of the TO 'problem' last year: Philly got Owens on the relative cheap and was unwilling to renegotiate his contract off his superlative 04 performance. Of course, the FO was well within its right to refuse to do so. But one can also understand Owens' position.

How McNabb played in the SuperBowl or in 05 when injured is irrelevant. The crux of Owens' ire was not Donovan's performance, but that TO wasn't getting paid when he proved himself that 'last addition' needed to reach the SB.

Owens WAS underpaid, and he had an agent who was not about to let him forget it. His antics backfired, but that doesn't diminish the fact that Philly has been notorious (like New England) for underpaying players (in general), and propagating the notion that coaching more than anything has kept them competitive (which may be true - but no player wants to hear it.)

McNabb did get paid tho, and as you say, became Company Man extraordinaire, a move that had to piss off more than one underpaid team-mate, and explains the reason why TO was never the anathema in the locker room he was made out to be. (Funny how the only other player who had a publicized issue with Owens was the so-called, self-appointed "Ambassador", Company Man Douglas.)

Rosenhaus miscalculated and Owens lacked the self-discipline to play his cards right, and it all blew up. They both acted like the exhibitionist arses they so easily can be...but the fact remains that Owens' 'issues' were limited to the FO and its stooges...not acrimoniously expanded to the entire team.

Did it really blow up? TO got what he wanted and it was Drew that got him it. I would call it a success.

Obviously there are some good-egg Eagle fans out there. Probably most of them are, but the vocal minority love the reputation of being felonious and crude in the name of "passion"...

They wear it as a badge of honor. That baffles me as well.

trickblue, you articulated this about perfect! :star:
