Just curious about how people from different demographics view their favorite rappers. List your fave 5 and your age. As an older fan of the genre who really isn't into alot of the newer stuff that's out I just wanted to gauge how some of you out there view the rap game...

Here's mine (I'm in my late 30s so my choices reflect that):
1-Rakim
2-KRS-ONE
3-Redman
4-Black Thought (of the Roots)
5-Jay-Z

1. Jay-Z
2. Eminem
3. Biggie
4. Sheek Louch
5. DMX(only to amp me up)

27 and live in east coast.

I'm older (just turned 35), and don't listen to a lot of hip hop or rap these days, but I'll have days where I'm feeling it now and then. My last job made it a part of the scenery, but I'm not really exposed to the party, trendy, youth culture that much anymore.

I still turn on Public Enemy, Rakim, GangStarr, KRS-1, Mobb Deep, early Outkast, Wu-Tang, Cypress Hill, The Roots, Tupac, Nas, Jay-Z, NWA, DMX, Dre, Snoop, and Beastie Boys from time to time.

As far as newer stuff I tend to like music that isn't particularly mainstream. I can't stand top-40 pop crap that you hear on the Radio. Sage Francis, Atmosphere (although he's fairly popular), Dr. Octagon, and a lot of underground stuff are pretty dope. IMO, of course.

Some of the older guys are still making good stuff. Public Enemy's 2007 release was amazing.

Sheek?! I'm feelin' him, too, even though I don't have any of his solo joints. Everything guest appearance he's had has been fire!

I'm getting pretty tired of the rap/pop star collabos. It's like the new thing nowadays.

We're around the same age (38), and your choices pretty much looks like my iPod's playlist! Alot of the younger guys I work with give me a hard time, talking about how they remember hearing what I'm playing when they were in elementary school! Most of the newer stuff I listen to is from older artists, too, like Rakim, Wu-Tang, The Roots...they all have put out some good CDs over the past couple of years...

idk if you mean current fav or all time, here is current

in no order

eminem
luda
ti
lil wayne
drake

22 from tx

I'm 29...my favorites are:

1. A Tribe Called Quest
2. The Roots
3. Gang Starr (RIP GURU)
4. Nas (old Nas, not that new BS)
5. Lords of the Underground
6. Del the funky Homosapian
7. De La Soul
8. Harry Shotta (sick white kid from London)
9. Wu Tang Clan

...Hip Hop died a while ago. Today's "rap" is nothing but a beat and some silly phrase repeated over and over again. There isn't much thought put into lyrics at all.

I'm 24

#1 Jay-Z
#2 Big L
#3 The Notorious B.I.G.
#4 DMX
#5 Method Man

38

1. Jay-Z
2. Eminem
3. Tupac
4. Biggie
5. Vanilla Ice.....just kidding. Snow. OK, still kidding. Beastie Boys. Beastie Boys are technically a group but they (and Run DMC) introduced me to rap and I never looked back.

I'm Mike D and I get respect. Your cash and your jewelry is what I expect.
Paul Revere is still one of my favorite songs of all time.

I'm 27, and if we're talking contemporary:

1. Jay Z
2. Kanye
3. Lupe Fiasco
4. Ludacris
5. Bun B

If you want to go back, the list is endless.

Interesting mix on here. I'm glad to see some of you younger guys respect some of the older hip hop artists. I didnt expect to see names like Big L, Gang Starr, & Del on here...especially from twentysomethings!

1.)Fat Pat
2.)Lil Keke
3.)2pac
3.)UGK or Pimp C Solo
4.)Big Hwak
5.)Z-ro
6.)Bigge
7.)SPM
8.)Eazy-E
9.)Big Moe
10.)Yungstar

23 Tx

One name I haven't seen, which is surprising since I figured some of you were from Texas, is Scarface! I consider him a pioneer of Southern gangsta rap and a very good lyricist. He's definitely my favorite Southern rapper...followed by Luda & Outkast.
